The idea was to do a sort of "trash the dress" shoot, where damaging the costume would be OK, since there were no plans to wear it again. I'd love to do more such shoots.
In this case, the idea was accumulating battle damage. Though I think I took it too far, and had America looking too defeated and not "I'm the hero!" enough.

Unfortunately ~Yeu sustained some damage herself. The vegetation in the area are was pretty thorny, which made getting out of this spot particularly challenging. (Though all the blood visible in the pictures is fake.)

I wanted to incorporate the clouds into the picture, so the ambient exposure is for the sky detail. That leaves the foreground significantly under-exposed. So nearly all the light in the foreground is from a flash (which was on a stand literally in the lake) at full power.

Note: this is around Randolph, New Jersey, and nowhere near Valley Forge. I just affiliate Valley Forge with snowy Revolutionary War imagery, so thought it was a fitting title.
