Would you mind if people asked you if a character of yours (that you wouldn't want to sell/trade) was for sale/trade? In case that you never explicitly said the character was not for sale/trade.

I would feel flattered, and if I wanted, I would do a baby adopt of their children!

It doesn't harm to ask but I'd feel a bit annoyed anyway.. But I wouldn't snap or begin to make a whole comment about what I said if I never explained if the character in question was in sale/trade or not. So basically it isn't really the fault of the person asking, but I'd just explain they aren't for sale and I'd thank them for asking anyway.

I'm not sure how I'd feel really, but I think I'd be a mix of being flattered and being angry. After all, it can be taken as a compliment for a person to want the character, but it can also be taken as an insult because they're not saying anything about the artistic value; they're just wanting it for themselves.

I am very attached to my characters so that is why it would bother me but I can understand asking. This actually happened and I had to take a moment to not put my emotions into it and explain that the character wasn't for sale.

Personally I think that there's no harm in asking, but somehow I'd still feel offended :'D

I really don't know what I would think. I find the concept of buying and trading the rights to a character or design to be really bizarre in the first place. I suppose I am beginning to understand, as I spend more time trolling around DA and getting a feel for the community I have mostly ignored for the past decade, but it still seems quite alien.

Yea, I can imagine it being weird somehow, it actually is kind of weird!

If you think about it, I suppose major corporations like Disney are doing the same thing, buying out Marvel and Star Wars and such because they're interested in having the collective rights to entire storylines along with the characters involved within. Just seems odd on a person-to-person level, never really thought about the stuff like Disney til just now.

Yea, it is odd, definitely. I especially would find it hard to accept that the character was no longer mine to use when I spent so much time making them.

I think that's part of it for me. I am terribly attached to my characters, I am not sure I could just hand them over to someone else. I have tried a couple of "Design X for me" contests, and one I was happy I didn't win because the thing was cute and wanted to keep it, while the other I found a strange disconnextion to [perhaps because it was made with the express intention of being for someone else?] and it still just seems odd.
