How do you feel about people resubmitting art you made for them, as a deviation, on DeviantArt? (Not talking about other sites here)

Totally okay! It was made for them, they don't need to ask. I don't even care if credit is given.

I am fine with it as long as they ask beforehand and give credit.

I'd rather have them not do it, but I will hesitantly allow it. Credit is always needed.

I only allow it in very specific cases, or for certain types of images (such as reference sheets). In other cases, no.
11%
I never allow it, no matter the circumstances.

I don't draw art for other people, so this does not apply to me.

I usually don't like because it's already posted on DA. I mean, it's pretty easy to link a ref sheet if it was a ref sheet commission? ( But if you mean resubmitting as in showing on profile but not gallery it's fine, but I like credit. Not much people commission me though ha )

No, resubmitting means an actual submission, not just showing the thumb, that I am fine with :P
Either way, I don't like it either if it's already on DA!

I'm cool with it as long as credit's given in the description! I mean, I think it's a little silly since main galleries aren't supposed to serve as a generic image hosting service, but whatever floats people's boat.

I personally upload the art I get to my sta.sh so that other people won't see it & think I made it, but if the artist takes down their deviation I'll still be able to use the images to decorate my page.

Yea, that's a good idea! I don't have it in Sta.sh because my main fursona has too much art to keep in there, but I save it all to my computer and put it on Toyhou.se for tracking purposes.

For the most part, I prefer it, actually, provided they give credit.

I mean, I may as well get the free publicity from their audience seeing my art, right?
SpitfiresOnIce's avatar

That's fair! It just gets annoying when their audience doesn't bother to actually look at your page and simply stays with the reposted version, because then you don't gain from it.

I said I am fine with it as long as they ask beforehand and give credit.
However, I feel it would be more logical to show their watchers the art they were given in a journal/poll instead, rather than resubmitting it.
With a reference sheet, I wouldn't mind them resubmitting it, as long as the proper credit is given. Not giving credit is a big no-no.
Like a lot of people, I never delete artwork from my page unless it's personal art, and I just don't want it seen anymore because it's so horrible. But all art that I've made for others will stay, in case they lose it and want it again.

I guess it just really depends on why they want to resubmit it.

Yea, I'd also much prefer a status, journal or poll feature, so that the actual faves and views still go to my work :P I don't delete any art from my gallery, so they should always be able to find it whenever needed.

In cases like mine, I deal with people who delete and/or store within 1-10 days of doing the commission, then refuse to unstore and refuse to give me the fullsize file, thus reposting is the only way I could have the art on this site as once it's gone it's gone and they won't bring it back regardless of how much I paid.

Well I want them to make sure nobody favs it if they repost. I want all favs directed towards my post- because it's my work.

I like that too, but that's usually hard to guarantee, sadly :noes: Another reason why I prefer to just not do it at all.

I'm alright with it as long as they give credit. Obviously once asked of course, though few ever ask to do so.
My boyfriend does repost commissions he gets on here with proper credit, since he's not confident with his art skills and expects negative feedback on it. It's a long story on that but he does always ask first before reposting the art.

I don't really see the correlation between not wanting critique on own art and reposting someone else's art :0 You mean that he still wnats to post stuff but doesn't want to post his own art?
Either way, it's good he asks for permission!
AquatheOhioKitty's avatar

It was not really critique, more like constant trolling and belittling, with him being autistic he took it as he shouldn't draw ever. I didn't see this happen myself since this happened before we dated so I'm going off what he told me. He's more of a writer artistic wise so he commissions others for the art of his characters.

Ahh, that sucks, I am sorry he had to experience that D: It always sucks when other people ruin art for someone...

I think it is okay to do it as long as credit is given (specially since the author and the submitter are not the same person). However if the artwork is already submmited to dA, when wanting to thank the author it seems better to link to the submission in the journal.

Obviously, asking for permission is always the best option...

Yea, I always prefer sharing the original deviation over resubmitting! Unless the original is no longer up of course, but if it is...
Especially when it's a full image, it just seems better :P

People resubmitting is often the only way my art is seen TTuTT
So as long as they credit im stoked with it.
