Do you feel bad for favouriting vent art, or do you feel like it's a bad thing to fave such things?
|204 votes
Yes, because it implies that you like this person's suffering (similar to "liking" a sad status on Facebook).

No, it really just means that you like the artwork itself. It doesn't imply any sort of disrespect towards the feeling behind it.

I personally fav vent art all the time and it's just because I like the art. I usually put I nice comment to try and cheer the person up though! :3

I get really scared that they think I might be enjoying their pain even though when I favourite something I probably mean "hey this looks awesome, sorry to hear you're going through this,I care "but not everybody takes it that way sadly

Not really, it just means that you like the actual piece.

I didn't even know it could be taken in the bad way, before I read a rant journal about it. So I really hope that everyone whose vent art I've favourited understands ;;

Actually, I really like it when people acknowledge any vents [good or bad] that I post because it feels like the person is saying "hey, I care" even if they don't leave a comment, as I usually disable them after a day or two anyway.

However, I know a handful of people who get really upset and even pissed when people acknowledge vents via favoriting [or reblogging, in the case of Tumblr since this kind of stuff happens a lot over there] and I don't get it. If you don't want people to favorite or reblog or retweet something, then don't post it. Not wanting comments is understandable, that's why things like being able to disable comments are available. At the end of the day, it's the internet, and you can't place something on public domain and expect it not to get acknowledged.

Personally, I don't give people shit about it... but thanks to Tumblr, it has successfully become one of my pet peeves.

I get really uncomfortable when people become angry about such things, like really... Anyone should know those people mean no harm, and if you put your art online it will probably get acknowledged, what did you expect?

If I fave a vent-art piece, I really meant no harm, I either didn't read the description, or I was trying to show empathy.

If I fave/like a vent status or artwork it means I like the artwork and/or I'm trying to show my empathy c:

I looked at this and wondered who actually complains about this stuff.

Then I remembered Tumblr exists, and that nothing can't be complained about as long as Tumblr exists.

Personally, I think it's stupid to get mad at people for faving any artwork.

I think it is too, I mean, one really should know no one means anything bad by doing it.

Not only do I appreciate art for art's sake, but to me I respect a person's ability to put their suffering into a piece of art and as a viewer, I like a piece to evoke emotion in me even if I don't understand the whole story behind it. And I can only hope that the art is helping the artist to cope with or work through their problems.

If you like a sad status on facebook and they take it to mean you are actually enjoying their suffering, then they are a fucking idiot and probably deserve whatever they're going through.

I think any reasonable human being can see a like or favorite and infer all the more likely thoughts involved, which include sympathy and understanding.
