honestly defining "furry" is really hard to do, but you'd know if you are one or not. like for me, i identify myself as one because I find interest in the fursuits and whatnot. It seems like a lot of fun. You can be a furry for many different reasons lol but idk ;w;
"Anthro" (walking on two legs) characters are the most common sorta thing but I feel like everything kinda counts. Being a furry DOES NOT have to include costumes/fursuits. Many people are completely art based and don't attend conventions or even bother with the costuming side of things.
HOWEVER it mostly depends on if you decide to identify yourself as one. Personally I am a furry, I just don't go around telling people openly because unfortunately people get the wrong idea unless they too are a furry. That or you have to explain and that's idk... lol
A furry, in my opinion, is a furry the moment they openly identify as part of the fandom. I myself am a pseudo-furry, (''fake furry'') because while I am interested in things furries typically like, I don't feel like the term describes me as a person or is a part of my life. I think the rest of people commenting here described what a furry is really well, so Just saying my view.
People are sometimes called a furry because they like animals and usually draw them with human features also called beastiality by some people... People who are furrys can range from just liking pictures of them or drawing them to someone who wants to have sex with one. People are usually misled into thinking every furry like those characters with animal features and wants to have sex with them which is not true. or If your just talking about a character then I can't say anything much but basically your drawing a human with animal ears and tail or others animal walking on two legs and has hair... I don't know much but personally i just like animals and i don't know...
thats what i think it is.. Never really thought about it much..
I'd like to mention that sexual content is more of a subgroup thing. Especially the part where people think furries "do it" with animals, which isn't being a furry and is something else. It's frustrating when that stuff is associated with the entire fandom, because for many people they have nothing to do with anything like that. I mean, having adult content at conventions doesn't help either...it's a shame...

A furry is a person who has a "fursona" which is an animal that is based off you and that represents the real you, in art, it is an anthromorphic animal, an animal that walks on two feet, wears clothes, and shares the same technology, so basically kinda like mickey mouse
Anyone who enjoys or draws anthromorphic animals AND who wishes to identify with the community, in my opinion. I don't feel like anyone should be forced to wear the label just for drawing a certain style, especially with the connotation that follows the furry community. Not everyone is comfortable being associated with the stereotypes, even if they draw anthro artwork.
I, myself, don't care. I'm a furry by most people's standards, but I don't go and throw this information around. Lots of my school friends feel negatively about the community, so... yeah. :U
A furry to me is someone who identifies themselves as a furry I know there are a lot of bad stereotypes out their associated with furries but that's just a part of the fandom not the whole thing. So don't let that stop you if you're thinking you might be one. I personally consider myself an anthro artist, because while most of my art is animals they are always anthro and I also draw humans. I think furies just draw animals more and it doesn't matter if they are anthro or just regular animals. But like I said, it's all in how you wanna express yourself and your identity
