There are a few that I completely trace, as well as some that I completely drew free style. My drawing style is that I only trace what I need, and then free style the rest (I always make sure and give credit to the original owners) but I never really like it when even my family accuse my drawing style as "plagiarism"

Hm...I was never ever accused of such a thing, but I think copying/tracing/heavily referencing is actually a pretty good way to improve yourself, I myself do it from time to time. But those artworks are only intended for practice, and are rarely published (recently I tried to mimic the style of grifsnuff out of fun. :D Sometimes it can turn out pretty hilarious).

Hmm, I'm personally not a fan of it. Maybe it makes some people improve, but it's never something I liked to do, even when I was told to do so. It never helped me any further as an artist.

As far as I can tell from my experiences, it's most useful for improving anatomy by tracing realistic, or semi-realistic artworks. Other than that...dunno, never used it. But for example...trying to recreate some kind of colouring or shading effect may actually work. Famous paint artists also improved much the same way. Although I still wouldn't publish those works at all.

Yea, for realism, maybe, if tracing happens with stock photos. For developing an own style, not so much :XD:

That is a valid argument. :D Tracing and copying may improve your technique, but not your creativity. Still, it's not something one should do to gain more followers.

I heavily referenced + traced when I was younger, but I never posted any of it. People that I've shown the pictures to have accused me of stealing though XD that was the reason why I never posted them; it was stolen and i simply just wanted a pretty lineart to color in. I never claimed the lineart but people seem intent on "even if you dont claim it it's still stealing" (which it still is, but i dunno i told you i didn't own the actual drawing just the colors so like why you gotta be an asshole?).

I have never been accused of stealing someones art. When I was little I did trace rarely, I have a total of at most 7 traced images, maybe less (I'm one of those people who never throws away anything I draw). I remember while I was tracing I thought to myself: "Oh, so that is how it is supposed to curve" or something like that, and before I knew it I was right back to drawing on my own. I don't know why tracing didn't stick with me.

Of course that was before the internet existed. Also back then I NEVER, and I mean NEVER showed anyone my art, even if it meant drawing in the bathroom so no one would see me drawing then that is what I would do. I am a very shy person...although no one that knows me can tell. lol

Now a days I trace my own work when I need duplicates for something like shading practice, certain alterations I want to make, or when I don't want to damage the original by erasing too much, so I'll trace my work and let the eraser destroy the traced version until I figure out how I want the originals final look to be. However every time I trace my own work, I feel like I am short changing myself. I need to practice drawing as much as possible in order to get better, and that means I should be redrawing my work! I can't help thinking this while I am tracing my own work and so since it makes me feel horrible, I rarely trace my own work. Dango-sweatdrop

Not art, no.
But I was accused of copying Hinauchi's character when I made my first fursona lmao. I'd never heard of her until I was accused of copying her sona.
Here's the character:

(The design on the left)
I ended up changing the design to grey + white because I had 2 people continue to pester me about it. According to Youtube artists of 2009, Hinauchi owns all white and brown animals with spots.

I was once accused of stealing someone elses art even though I stated in my description that the original work I based my drawing off of didn't belong to me.

This was WAAAY back when I didn't own a printer, so stuff that I would like to have printed top put on my wall as a poster, I had to recreate. I used a look and draw style to draw a picture of this winged fox. I thought it came out well, so, years later when I got a scanner, I posted it. I specifically stated that It wasn't my original work, I just recreated it to put it on my wall, but I didn't know who the original artist was to give them credit.

Girl gets on and starts yelling at me for stealing the art and all that and contacts the original artist, who, after reading my description, says she doesn't mind as long as I gave her credit.

And I've had incidences where someone accused me of stealing a poem and a fanfic from them. Another friend of mine saw the comments and was able back me up because she saw and helped me write the originals while in high school.

No one ever accused me when I was younger. I traced and copied so much though. But I had nowhere to post it, so that's a good thing.
Though I do reference off of real life photos. I was playing with digital art and seeing how it worked.

I have been accused by my classmates(if that counts).
It was actually recently when we were doing a computer project and i had to pull up my google drive and the kid said "cool image, where did you get it?" and i replied "i made it" and he said no, you didn't to which i replied "i did" then he said "you traced, didn't you." and i said no so i had to pull up the full image,  search for it on google images, then draw a canine to prove i drew it.

Not as far as I can remember, and I've never been accused of doing so. Not quite the same thing but when I first started seriously drawing my style was heavily based on The Lion King, it's evolved a lot since then xD

When I was super young I was OBSESSED with J "Neondragon" Peffer, an artist who drew dragons. I have three of her drawing books. One time I followed her tutorial in the book to draw a Kirin. I was so pleased with the outcome! When I made my deviantArt account a while later, I got the idea to scan some of my traditional art and post it. I posted the Kirin without any credits or anything, not realizing what I was doing wrong. Months later, someone called me out on it. They suggested that I at least credit her. I remember being so embarrassed that I made up a ton of excuses saying that I didn't copy her art. Another person called me out on it, accusing me of tracing. More excuses. Eventually I just deleted it out of embarrassment.

In retrospect, it wasn't a big deal; I was new to deviantArt, I was new to art itself. I just didn't know, and there's no shame in that. I should've just sucked it up and fixed it right away! But I was so stubborn and so reliant on what people thought of me that I just didn't. (cringing...)

So... Yes, I have been accused of copying/tracing before, but I'm not sure if it counts as being true. I didn't even know what copying/tracing was; it was just in a how-to-draw book.

OHMYFUCK I JUST LOOKED AT THE SITUATION THE OTHER DAY
so i made a closed species Called Dinees which were basically cats based off food lmao (thanks 11 year old self)
and i used Kawiku's Nekoi species page as a guide where i should put the tails/ears/etc
i traced a circle and some words (which i dont think counts as 'art theft')
and suddenly white knights came out of NO WHERE accusing me of being an art theif, and copying nekois AND sushi dogs. like, what the fuck?
there was ONE PERSON who stood up for me. she typed paragraph after paragraph and im forever greatful for her <3
people would say "lmao white knights' but wouldnt help. people kept bashing me for a while

Yes, falsely accused
This is how it happened. my friend Eliana thought she drew ugly and everyone laughed at her artwork
everyone admired my artwork so she decided to draw like me.
she took my sketchbook and copied a bunch of things, and then a new year of school came and she and I were not going to be in the same class.
So then one day (I forgot who) but someone came up to me and said something like "Your copying Eliana's art!" And there she is head up high and proud of it.
Thank god my style was SOOOOO ugly then

WHO WOULD EVER WANNA STEAL MY STYLE THEY MUST BE DESPERATE!

(This was obviously not on da)
