How technically Sunday? I am not religious but I was always told that Sunday was the day of rest and that it was the seventh day of the week when God rested after creating the earth etc. I go with argument that the weekend is Saturday and Sunday. That is my own opinion though. I am.interested in why people think one or the other.
Well in school we are taught that Sunday is the first day of the week when we are learning he order/name of the days (kindergarten/preschool usually) I personally am not religious, so I don't look at it from that religious perspective, although I am highly educated in that area
I don't know. I usually think of Friday and Saturday as the weekend because those are the 2 nights that you get to actually go out and have fun, whereas Sunday nights are usually no different than school nights.
OH and calendars usually start the weeks on Sunday, end on Saturday.
Very true that you can go out Friday and Saturday night. Over here we were taught Monday as the first day and I just presume it is to do with work and school starting on a Monday. As the two days off of a week are usually Saturday and Sunday that is another reason why I always think of Sunday as being the end of the weekend. Usually calendars here start on a Monday too. I won't buy one that has Sunday as a start date.
Ah, so I guess it's just a matter of where you live then I guess. I'll admit, it makes sense for Monday to be the first day of the week, but that's not what I was taught and it would drive me insane if I thought Monday was the first day but the calendar always started on a Sunday >.<
So the terminology of "weekend" came about because Saturday and Sunday are the ends of the week, Sunday being the front end and Saturday being the back end. Also Wednesday is hump day for being the middle of the entire week, not just the work week. Work weeks vary for everyone (mine is Sunday through Wednesday currently) so people who argue the "work week" thing really aren't accurate at all.
I think it makes sense to have the weekend be, well, the end of the week, not the beginning I never heard people argue about Wednesday playing a role in this but either way for me that doesn't matter much
I am very OCD about this. Most calendars bother me because they start the week with Sunday. I know that's technically correct but I just find it so unsettling... So instead of a normal calendar, I use a schedule planner book, but the thing is, it HAS to be one that starts the week with Monday, or else I can't use it. xD
It's technically Sunday, but I know what you mean! Since I've been out of school, it feels a little more like Sunday is the beginning; I don't have a constant job or school to go to, so nothing starts on Monday, yknow? But typically Monday does FEEL like the beginning; going back to work or school for five days before the weekend.
