Person A posts a rant about something. Person B disagrees commenting with their own opinion, and A becomes angry at B because "I (A) am just voicing my opinion, you don't have to comment if you don't agree." Is this hypocritical of A?

as okamiwhitewings said, if person b is being a dick about it, then person a has every reason to be angry. if person b is being polite and understanding, then yes, person a is a hypocrite for being angry.

When you post a rant you have to know that someone is going to disagree with you. Especially if it is a very controversial topic.

Pretty hypocritical! Though I do understand person A getting defensive if B was, like, totally rude about it. There's a difference between having a disagreement / discussion and being a total jerk, y'know?

Yea, that's understandable! But if B wasn't rude they shouldn't be angry.

Haha :D With everything we have different views on the situation at hand. Its fine to disagreeing with someone else, but Neither person A or B need to be vile to one another in the process :D Just understanding towards the others point of view.

I think it just depends on what the opinion is and how angry person A gets.

I would say yes, unless the person says "okay, rant over. I know I'm worked up about this, so please don't disagree with me in the comments until I've calmed down. Thanks :) " Or something else along those lines. Though I feel like if you voice your opinion on the internet, well, someone is bound to comment and say "nah dude I disagree." x'D

Yea, if they word it in such a way it's alright, but when people go "AND IF YOU DISAGREE YOU'RE FREAKING THRASH" then that's rather unreasonable, I think.
But yea, the Internet :XD:

If they're being kind about it and logical then I guess Person A shouldn't really feel the need to be angry about it and EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion. Idk man

I've only ever ranted once, and when I did I specifically asked for no opposing comments. I was not in the mood for arguing at the time.

Nobody ended up commenting with a different opinion anyway, but if that problem came, would that be considered the same situation as above?

Not hypocritical, but misplaced. If (A) doesn't want people to answer in their own opinions, he should disable comments or not post anything.
The whole purpose of comments is to talk and discuss.

Honestly, people are always going to have differing views. I think that you have the right to disagree with someone, but you don't have the right to be an asshole about it.

If you attack someone and behave rudely or aggressively towards them for not agreeing with you, then that's not okay. (Guiltily I have done this a number of times when I was younger, and sometimes now I stil do it by accident when I get annoyed because the other person is being a dick :L)

As long as you can have a civil conversation about the disagreements, then it's fine. But honestly, the whole "just voicing my opinion" thing is stupid. This is the internet. People are going to disagree with you. Grow up. XD

Ive had this before but I never get angry at my watchers. I just discuss it with them to understand their point of view, but I did see people bitching at their watchers for disagreeing, even on polls. Why did you make the poll in the first place if you dont like what they vote? :XD:

its kinda like how people are like, "Freedom of speech! I can say whatever I want!" Of course that is true, but that doesn't mean you aren't excused from facing the consequences of voicing your opinion whether it be good or bad. Everyone else also has the right to disagree with said person and write them off as annoying if that's what they are doing.

This is the internet. Everyone is free to express their opinion. If you post a rant journal, you can expect people to comment on it, even if they don't agree. A posted his/her opinion in that journal, so why wouldn't others be allowed to do that?
If you don't want any comments from people that disagree with you, don't post a rant journal.
That's what I think, I've seen it a few times as well. They should know people are not alwaya going to agree with them xd

omfg, i hate it when people comment how much they think an artist is terrible, on said artists image, and then get angry when someone disagrees with them and uses the "just voicing my opinion" rant. Geezus

Yes, it's like... sure, you may have opinions, but if you comment on the ARTIST'S IMAGE and expect people NOT to get angry at you, you might be a little bit naive.

I see this so often and it just is so... weird.

My view on it, if you are allowed to voice your opinion then so is everyone else. You can also just agree to disagree, no need to get so worked up over it.
Unless they are voicing it rudely and saying you're an idiot for having that opinion, but that's a different story.
