Subtitles. I find that most shows with the original audio have actors that better fit the characters. Also, when you watch multiple animes from the same dubbing company, you get a lot of characters played by a single person and there's not much auditory variety between each show. And of course the whole out of sync lips thing that goes on with dubs really sets me off.

[Oh and same opinion for movies with real people XD I didn't fully read the question. But trying to watch, like, French movies with English voice overs makes me cringe.]

Yes, same. :'D Or a western that is supposed to take place in Australia, and then the people speak German or something. It's so wrong in any way and because it's so obvious it bothers me a lot x'D

And yes, usually the original is by far the best. Translating stuff tends to make the conversations less strong, plus the voice doesn't really belong to the actor which tends to get on my nerves. x)

Subtitles. There's nothing better than watching something in its original audio.

I like to have them while watching stuff in Dutch, too. :XD: Sometimes I find it hard to concentrate on spoken words and then it's nice to have visual help. :)

it's especially nice when there's noise other than the tv

Yeah, there is no door in between our TV room and the kitchen, so when my dad is messing with pots and pans it's really hard to concentrate. I can't filter background noise very well.

I definitely prefer subtitles.

The only ones I prefer dubs are the Godzilla movies, where I could care less about the scenes involving the humans.

I like the use of subtitles but I do prefer to watch it too, it's almost had to understand when your just focusing on subtitles. It's ok with European films to me since life isn't so much different but other countries have a different way of life so it's hard for me to understand

Definitely subtitles.
Because 1) it often bothers me when it's obvious that the actor's voice doesn't belong to the person you're seeing. Like, the lip syncing is horribly off, the voice doesn't fit that person at all, ... and it just doesn't sound as good to me. I prefer the original sound, then you can get to know the accents and all, too.
2) subtitles are a much better way to learn languages. Maybe they won't help much but you might pick up a few words this way. :P
