I'm okay as long as it's done in a respectful manner. It's a little disheartening to see something disrespectful done with the body; but most practised taxidermists I've seen are good.

I prefer if the animal is not killed for the sole purpose of taxidermy, but if the rest of the body (meat and bone) is used for something then I have no problem (unless, of course, the animal was sick).

I've always wanted a taxidermy fox, and at one point I wanted to be a taxidermist. :)

It's okay I think if the animal was to be dead/killed anyway. But I feel kinda disgusted when looking at dead stuffed animals with their fake lifeless eyes just staring at you... Also at my school they have this dusty old storeroom for all biology related stuff and such. It's crammed with old, creepy, rundown stuffed animals and I always run past that door without looking in because once when I had to go in I started feeling nauseous about it and had to leave... I'm sure that if there was a zombie apocalypse, the animals from my school would come alive and start haunting me D:

I'm completely fine with it, as long as the animal wasn't killed to be stuffed. I have a friend who's a taxidermist, and she's amazing. She finds her animals already dead though, and I think that's great.

Yeah, I think it's really nice if people can make a dead animal look good again! :)

I'm confused with the endangered species part. For one, if the endangered one died naturally I would be very eager to preserve it, just in case it does go extinct like the Thylacine, then you can see what they looked like even if they died out.

If you meant killing them just for the purpose of taxidermy then yeah I'd be against it.

Yeah, the endangered one is about being fine with animals getting killed for fur, but not if the species is endangered. That's what I meant :3

I'm all for it, unless it's an endangered species, then definitely not.

It's preparing, stuffing, mounting, ... the skin of animals, for display or study.

Oh! Well, if the species is very common, and the animal that is stuffed was going to die anyways, then I'm okay with it. But doing that to rare species, or an animal that could have lived a long, healthy life... No. Just no.

I'm not for killing animals just to have their pelts either, but I don't see what's wrong about using the skin of an already dead animal :P

Yeah. If it's already dead, that's cool. But just killing them for fur is dumb.

I'm not really for killing animals just for taxidermy. I think I can understand why people compare it to killing for food but I can also see why people would have problems with that, even if it's just a common species.
But if the animal is dead anyway, like an animal that was shot for its meat, or hit by a car, then I don't see why people couldn't do things with the remains. I don't believe that the animal itself "wouldn't want that" because it's dead. I wouldn't mind if they ripped my skin off after my death because I wouldn't feel a thing and I wouldn't have an opinion anymore. So.
I wouldn't buy pelts myself, but I do think some of them are pretty. And yes, maybe the animal was "more pretty alive" but in some cases animals die, and I just don't see why we wouldn't be able to keep their pelts.
TL;DR killing animals just for pelts? No. Using the pelts of an animal that's dead already anyway? Yes.
