Wabash Township Volunteer Fire Department (station 9) is located in the northeast corner of Fairland Co. Station 9 covers a primarily rural area with a small bit of residential. This all volunteer department provides fire, rescue, and BLS first responder coverage to 42 square miles. Station 9 is home to Engine 9, Rescue 9, Truck 9, Attack 9, Tanker 9 and Brush 9. EMS transport services are provided by Portage Fire Territory.
Engine 9: (1750gpm/800gal) Engine 9 responds 2nd or third out for most calls.
Rescue 9: (1500gpm/500gal) This unit was purchased used in 2020. Replacing the former rescue 9 and engine 9-1, this unit responds first due to all vehicle accidents, mutual aid requests and vehicle fires. It also responds 3rd out to fires within the township.
Truck 9: (1250gpm/300gal) Truck 9 responds 1st out to all fires within the township. While this unit has a small water tank, water supply is usually close behind.
Attack 9: (1000gpm/250gal) Attack 9 responds first out to all medical calls and second out to brush fires and vehicle accidents. This unit can serve as a back rescue and is equipped with extrication tools.
Tanker 9: (1500gpm/3000gal) This truck is 2nd out to all residential fires and third out to all brush fires.
Brush 9: (750gpm/300gal) Purchased by the State Dept. of Forestry, this unit responds first out to all brush fires. It also is part of a regional wildland fire task force.
