St. John Township Fire Department (Base 70) is located on the northeast side of Cass County bordering Fort Harrison. SJTFD is a combination department that is made up of 20 paid personnel and 45 volunteer. Base 70 is staffed daily with 4 firefighters and 2 paramedics on duty at all times. SJTFD is one of the busiest stations within Cass County due to the rapid growth within their territory. Base 70 is home to Engine 71, Engine 72, Tanker 73, Tanker 74, Medic 75-1, Medic 75-2, Med-Car 75, Squad 76, Truck 77, Rescue 78, Rehab 70, Grass Rig 79, Fire 71, and Squad 76-2.
Engine 71: This apparatus served as the first due engine within the township until Engine 72 was purchased. I2 now serves at a ready reserve/second due engine if other units are on a call.
Engine 72: This unit is first due for all fire calls within the hydranted area of the township. It also is the second out fire apparatus for car crashes.
Tanker 73: Tanker 73 responds to all fire calls within the non-hydranted area of the township. It is first due for any vehicle fire on the interstate.
Tanker 74: This truck is second out with tanker 73 in the non-hydranted areas and responds to all mutual aid fire calls. It also responds third due to all car crashes as a blocker
Medic 75: Medic 75 is first out for all medical calls within the township.
Medic 75-2: this medic unit served briefly as a front line medic. It now serves as a 2nd out unit and a reserve.
Squad 76: This unique apparatus is used primarily as a medical assist truck. it carries a full complement of engine company tools to respond to other calls. It also responds second out on brush and field fires.
Truck 77: T-77 responds first due for any commercial fire alarms. it also responds to all structure fires.
Rescue 78: Rescue 78 responds first due for all MVA's and rescue assignments within the township.
Rehab 70: Rehab 70 responds to all working structure fires within the county (excluding the city of Fort Harrison). It also can serve as a mobile command post on some scenes.
Grass Rig 79: this truck is first due on all brush and field fires. It also can serve as medical first response vehicle as needed.
Fire 71: This is the fire chief's personal vehicle.
Squad 76-2: this unit serves as a utility truck for the department. it has a snow plow attached in the winter.
