The town of Shorewood is located in the southwest corner of Fairland county approx. 30 miles west of Centralia. Shorewood Fire Department (Station 20) is a combination department with 29 career and volunteer members. Shorewood provides Fire, Rescue, Dive, Hazmat and Medical First Responder protection to 85 square miles and 6,800 permanent residents. However, due to the lakes in their district, the population increases dramatically in the summer months. Station 20 is home to Ladder 21, Engine 22, Engine 23, Tanker 25, Brush 27, Rescue 21, Hazmat 29, SCUBA 28, and Command 20.
Ladder 21: (1500gpm/400gal) This truck responds to all fires and building alarms within the district.
Engine 22: (1500gpm/1000gal)Engine 22 responds first-due on fires in town, Vehicle accidents and any Hazmat calls. This rig carries extrication and hazmat equipment on the officer's side, and oil dry and PIGS in the coffin compartments.
Engine 23: (1250gpm/2000gal) This is the 1st out engine for fires in the rural portions of the district. It can also serve as a second tanker for mutual aid responses.
Tanker 25: (750gpm/2500gal) Tanker 25 is 2nd-out on all mutual aid calls as well as all rural fires.
Brush 27: (250gpm/250gal) BR-27 responds to all grass and field fires in Shorewood's sizeable district.
Rescue 21: This unit responds 1st out as a medical first responder vehicle. This unit is certified as a BLS non-transport unit.
Hazmat 29: Towed by Rescue 21, this trailer responds for all hazmat incidents. It is equipped for hydrocarbon spill, mass decon, and level B entry incidents.
SCUBA 28: this unit responds county wide for all dive rescue/recovery calls. All Career members of SFD are certified as dive team members.
Command 20: This truck serves as the incident command vehicle for the department.
