Description
The Town of Portage is located just west of Centralia in southeastern Fairland County. PFT is an all-career department that provides Fire, Hazmat, Technical Rescue and ALS/BLS services more than 38,000 residents from three stations. Their protection area includes the Town of Portage and portions of Guilford, and Wabash Townships.
Station 121 protects the south-central section of Portage including portions of I-57. Station 121 is currently staffed with 12 firefighters and is home to Engine, Medic, Ladder, Squad and Boat 121.
Engine 121: (2000gpm/950gal) Staffed with 4 firefighters, this unit responds to most calls from station 121.
Medic 121: This ambulance is staffed with 2 paramedics and provides ALS coverage to the southern portion of territory.
Ladder 121: This apparatus carries a full compliment of extrication equipment and responds to all major accidents in addition to fire calls.
Squad 121: The Squad responds on on most medical runs district-wide along with the responding ambulance. This apparatus is considered a 2nd piece to Ladder 121 and will roll anytime L121 does. SQ-121 carries "overflow" rescue gear, that won't fit on L121.
Utility 121 and boat 121: Cross staffed by Engine 121, this truck responds county wide to all swift water rescue calls.
