Description
Jordan Township is located immediately east of Gadsen city. This largely bedroom community is protected by a combination department operating out of two fire stations. Station 8 serves as the Department's headquarters and is staffed with 4 personnel at minimum and supplemented by 15 volunteers. Station 8 is home to Engine 8, Tanker 8, Medic 8, Engine 8-1, Ambulance 8-2, Utility 8, Grass 8, and Chief 8. Crews will choose to respond with the most appropriate unit(s) for calls and volunteers will supplement when needed.
Engine 8: (1500gpm/ 750gal) Engine 8 responds first out to all fire calls from station 8. It is equipped with a full complement of extrication and stabilization tools in addition to firefighting equipment
Tanker 8: (1250gpm/2200gal) Tanker 8 responds to all fire calls in non-hydrated areas. It also is frequently called on by neighboring agencies for water supply.
Medic 8: This ALS ambulance is staffed 24/7 and responds to all medical calls within the township.
Engine 8-1: (1500gpm/1250gal) Prior to the arrival of Engine 8, this unit served as the first out engine. It now serves as a 2nd out/reserve engine for larger incidents or multiple calls at the same time.
Ambulance 8-2: This 2nd ambulance is traditionally staffed by volunteers when needed. It also serves as a special events ambulance for various festivals in the township.
Utility 8: This unit is equipped and certified as an ALS non-transport unit and serves as a paramedic chase/manpower transport unit.
Grass 8: This unit was obtained with grant funding from the State Department of Public Lands in 2005. It was refurbished in house and now responds to all vegetation fires in the township.
Chief 8: This unit is the take home vehicle for the fire chief. It responds to all major incidents.
