Hey y'all.  I, Kyle Jorve, and my good friend Ben Truman will be at Tucson Comic Con November 8th and 9th, getting stupid and letting our brainchildren see the sweet light of day for once.  I will see you there!  Though they haven't told me what table yet, so just walk in circles until you get frustrated, and then scream my name.  I'll probably hear it.  Maybe.

And check out my sketch blog, where I semi-regularly post works-in-progress and sketches, and then disappear mysteriously for months on end while I work on writing projects, leaving you to cry yourself to sleep at night hugging your knees, wondering where it all went wrong.

But I always come back.  Always.

Hello, my dears.  I will be attending Saboten Con once again this year!  Table 507!  And I'll be sharing my table with my lovely girlfriend Niki Ortiz (nikicortiz.tumblr.com/).  Come see us and our pretty arts!

As for new pieces, I'll have prints of I Swear (spinmeromantic.deviantart.com/…) and a colored version of The Brothers Nephilim (spinmeromantic.deviantart.com/…) for sale, as well as the original graphite drawings for both of those.  It's gonna be a gay ol' time! =D

If you haven't already, check out my tumblr (theartofaxis.tumblr.com/) for more regular updates, and my website (www.theartofaxis.com/) for a full gallery and print shop.  See you at the con!

And if you haven't already, follow me on tumblr (theartofaxis.tumblr.com)!  I post sketches and works in progress frequently.

Ya, that "Lazy" mood still applies

Once again, it's been a while since I've last updated.  I've been doing mainly (read: only) sketches these days, and otherwise have been hard at work revising the manuscript for my first graphic novel project, Post-Autumn.  Page layout and storyboarding for the Prologue of Volume I is complete, I just have to start actually doing pages.

Besides that, I will be present at Phoenix Comic-Con (www.phoenixcomicon.com/) as an exhibitor with my friend :iconlastdove:!  I'm honestly a little afraid, as this is the first really BIG con I'll be attending.  And I'm a little disappointed, as it was my goal to have Volume I of Post-Autumn done for PCC this year, but alas...it will have to wait for next year.

I can't think of anything else to update you on.  If you haven't yet, y'all should check out my tumblr (www.theartofaxis.tumblr.com/) and my website (www.theartofaxis.com/), which is equipped with a full STORE.  If there's something here that you want a print of that isn't in the store on my website, just shoot me an email (axis@theartofaxis.com) or a note here on devART.

Ya, that last entry was OLD.  Anyway, I'll be at the next Saboten Con, as usual.  Gonna try to have at least one new fan art piece and a BOOK to sell.  I have to figure out a cost-effective way to print, as this will be my first time selling a book.  And I know it's been a LONG time since I last updated my website, but I will probably get around to that soon-ish...it's the summer, you know.  In a lazy mood X)

That's about all I can think of to update y'all on...whoever's actually reading.  See you at the next con! =D

The next convention I'll be attending is Taiyou-Con in Phoenix, January 6-8.  In addition to my usual Artist Alley table, I will be hosting a panel for the very first time at THIS convention.  At this panel, :iconlastdove: and I will be learning you kids good about figure drawing.  I'll be doing the more anatomy-oriented and technical side, while she'll get y'all loosened up with the expressive and gestural side.  So come to my table, gaze horrifiedly upon my wares, and then come watch me scar some kids for life =D

It's just about guaranteed to be a great time.

And!  If you haven't already, please drop by my tumblr.  I post all my works in progress there, so if you're curious as to what I'm working on, or you just don't want to wait 'til the brainchild is fully matured to spit on it, I would greatly appreciate a follow =D  Currently I'm working on a piece about Rúen, who you may or may not have already met here.

As always, thank you for all the support, especially the recent outpour around my new Kingdom Hearts piece.  It is very much appreciated =D

  • Eating: Mint oreos! They taste like thin mints! =D

Alright, I wanted to wait to announce this 'til I'd actually posted something relevant, but I now have a Tumblr!  So, what I'll be using it for mainly is work-in-progress shots of whatever painting I'm working on at the time.  Right now that'd be a Kingdom Hearts diptych.  Ya, that's right, I'm taking the Kingdom Hearts piece you've all seen and I'm turning it into a diptych.  You'll have to go to my Tumblr to see the progress shot that's up there right now, though

Sooo...go to my Tumblr.  Subscribe 'n' shit.  And I'll try to post things in a semi-often and timely fashion.

Sooo Saboten was pretty great!  Not so great for sales, but I got to meet two of my heroes, Johnny Yong Bosch and Reuben Langdon (voices and mo-cap actors for Nero and Dante, respectively).  And I got my DMC4 case signed!  XD

I got a lot of feedback at my table this year and what I've been hearing are mainly two things:

1.  My prices are too low.  Weird, I know.  I lowered prices this year in consideration of the declining economy, and what I was told on many occasions was that I "could be charging way more" for my prints.  So, I know I mentioned in a previous entry that I'd be changing my prices on my site to reflect changed prices elsewhere, but given this feedback I'm going to choose to continue with the prices I have.  The price change was really only an experiment in the first place to see how my sales would be affected, and I believe I've determined that pretty well.  That is to say, the price change had no effect on sales at all.

2.  I need more stuff.  Much more.  And more fan art, too.  I had basically 10 or so prints that I was selling, most of which I've been selling for the past couple years.  The reason for this is that I'm a pretty slow painter, and pieces usually take me weeks to finish.  Also, this year I've been concentrating more on school and writing, and my personal painting output has thus been stunted.  Stunting almost no output at all means...well, let's just say I had literally nothing new since Con-Nichiwa.  So!  With that in mind, I'm going to (try to) buckle down and have at least three new pieces for Taiyou-Con in January.  Hopefully my time in Painting I class has loosened me up so I'll be able to get things done more quickly.  I've come to realize that I really need to start focusing much more on quantity than on forcing quality.  In addition to new pieces, I'm going to work on making a catalogue of sorts for my prints and sketches, AND I'm going to attempt to (maybe) experiment with some other kinds of merch, like shirts, buttons, stickers, etc.  That's all pretty new for me so we'll see how it all works out.  Generally speaking, I feel that I not only need more paintings, but a greater variety of merch.

That all being said, thank you SO much to all my visitors, customers, and commissioners, I hope you all had a wonderful Saboten, and I'll see you again next year!  And if you're coming to Taiyou-Con stop by my table!
My prices at cons from now on will be as they've always been before Saboten, and I'm sorry if this inconveniences or angers you in any way.
  • Playing: Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection baby!
  • Eating: Ramen =3

I'll be at Saboten Con again this year from September 30-October 2.  I'll have a table next to :icontonomurabix:, so look for us =D

Unfortunately I won't have painted anything new since Con-Nichiwa, but that's because I've been focusing on school and on writing my story, Post-Autumn, which will hopefully be ready to illustrate by next summer.  *fingers crossed*

See you cool kids there!  And if you haven't checked it out already, go to my totally new and totally awesome website, theartofaxis.com!  New interface, new storefront, and newly lowered prices for the larger prints (and soon-to-be lowered prices for the smaller prints as well! =D

Honestly, I appreciate feedback.

And!
I've finally updated my website.  I recently updated my OS, so I lost the files for the old one and had to redesign it from scratch.  It was TOTALLY worth it, though.  It looks COMPLETELY different, trust me.
Check it out:  www.theartofaxis.com/

I've also restructured most of the pricing for the prints (the larger ones are a lot cheaper now).  As always, if you ever want to purchase a print of my work, you can do so at my new and improved online Store!  Or just drop me an email at Axis@theartofaxis.com

O!  And I have a Facebook fan page now.  Check it:  www.facebook.com/pages/The-Art…

Okay, so I've just finished with Andrew's, and I'm officially down to one commissioner, Alexsandra.  And rest assured I will be working diligently to get yours done.  Once again, I'm very sorry it's taking me so long to get these finished.  School and looking for a summer job have been keeping me pretty busy.  I don't offer that as an excuse, though.  I realize that some level of professionalism is expected of me, and for that reason I simply say that I do apologize for the long wait.  Rest assured that the with the wait comes quality, however.  You shall not be disappointed =)

The two that are left are Andrew and Alexsandra, in that order.  I'll be trying to finish with at least one of you this weekend.
Thank you for your patience!

Thank you for understanding =D

I'm not sure what to do with my life at this point.  I'm at a critical juncture.  I can go down one path which may allow me to accomplish what I want with my personal work, but with added professional and societal pressure that may impede progress of said work.  Or, I can tread a different path, which will be void of the pressures of artistic professionalism, but with the downside of my professional and personal lives not being connected in any way.  That may not be a bad thing.  I'm not sure, really.  I'm starting to really think critically about my decisions in life thus far, namely why I decided I want to make a profession out of my art.  I'm starting to think that I'm less an artist, and more a person who just enjoys drawing and painting.  There is a difference.

Why did I choose to take seriously something I never actually wanted to take seriously in the first place, and which I still have no desire to take seriously?  Why make a profession out of something that was merely innocent fun?  That choice, I think, has certainly sucked the fun out of it.  I really don't know what to do.  I've gone so far down this path that it's almost become my only realistic option, but it's getting harder and harder to continue with every step.  Sure, it's made my work better, technically, but it's also blocked me in a myriad of ways.  I'm honestly grateful for the skills that school has afforded me, without it I surely wouldn't have reached the level I'm at now.  But at the cost of all my enthusiasm and love for art being beaten out of me, I'm not sure it's worth continuing.  I have to consider what is best for me and my happiness.  I'm not sure being an art professor is what's best.  Or maybe it is.  I really, honestly do not know.  I am lost.  And I don't think that there's anyone I can talk to who will understand.

For the last few days, Painter X has been crashing on me consistently.  I've exhausted almost all options in trying to fix it.  And today, I'm exhausting the last.  I'm updating my OS, and doing a complete wipe of my hard disk in the process.  If this doesn't work, I have no idea what to do.  Not being able to paint really stresses me out.  But I'm hopeful =)

But I got a new iPod, too, so that should take some of the edge off!  =D

Hello, everyone.  I'm in an art competition at www.creativedivergents.com
I have two submissions and they're both entitled "Post-Autumn."  Please, please vote for me.  It'll take you 5 minutes at most, and the winner gets $1000, which would make a world of difference to me.

All you do is go to www.creativedivergents.com , create a user name, click on my submissions and rate them (the stars on the top right) -- 5 stars please! =D  Comment if you want to, and you're done.

Thank you! =D

Currently I'm working on some Kingdom Hearts fan art.  It's coming along nicely, though I'm still trying to figure out color, really =/
Anyway, you should be seeing that soon =D
This is kind of a late update, but as of one week ago, all commissions from Saboten have been finished =D
I mailed the last of them on Monday.  I hope you like!  =3

I'm very sorry it's taking me so long to finish your commissions.  So far I have two of you left to finish drawings for.  It's been a very busy and hectic week with school, and midterms are coming up, so I'm sorry that I haven't had the time to focus on your commissions.  Rest assured, though, they will get done, and soon!  I promise.  At the latest they will be done by the end of this week, and they will be sent off immediately afterward.

Thank you for your patience and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have!

My email is Axis@theartofaxis.com
