The Dweller Under Gunsmoke by SpikeValance The Dweller Under Gunsmoke by SpikeValance

Spike Valance’s Cthulhu Mythos – The Dweller Under Gunsmoke, Leech of Dominion (Great Old One)

“[…]It was your supreme intelligence that surprised me the most. In addition to that your entire species has a vast knowledge of this entire planet's history due to your limitless memory[…]”

Knives Millions, Trigun Maximum
Volume 11, Chapter 4 - Return of the Wicked

"[...]You don't need to worry about anything. We plan to carry out all of your desires... and more... the obliteration... of the entire Human Race...[...]"

Zazie the Beast, Controller of the WormsQueen of Desert Insects.

“[…] And there IT was... or should I say SHE, cos it's feminine after all... a Queen, a Mistress, a Dominatrix of some sort... that hideous thing slumbering out there beneath desert sands in the deepest of the chasms... polypous... insectile... arachnoid... elephantine... and those monstrous ganglia too devastating to withstand... Who else do you suppose to have instructed the Desert Insects since the dawn of aeons, uh?[…]”

Stan Kirowan III, The Gunsmoke Horror.

In my own endless rechérce of the Great Old Ones I would have never figured out that I could stumble upon a Star-Spawn in the favourite comics of my favourite (and only) mangaka, Yasuhiro Nightow. I'm alluding to Trigun (Trigun Maximum, precisely) and to the unspeakable thing with multifarious appendages featuring in Volume 11 of the manga, when Zazie the Beast is going to betray master Knives in the most hideous way. But there's something else behind Zazie's wicked plans and here's a glimpse of it...

Purists of Science Fiction may object me it's just the Queen of Desert Insects' Hive like in Heinlein's Starship Troopers and Zazie is just the human(oid) "puppet" of hers, because the Worms and bugs roaming in planet Gunsmoke are just a "collective hive-mind". I can agree about the latter sentence but I've got quite different plans, cos I'm going to release a fan project, here or elsewhere I've still to decide it. I've also got a name for her and a full Lovecraftian and Cthulhu Mythos background but I won't tell you... at least for the moment...

Anyway everything of this creature quite cries of GREAT OLD ONES, the Star-Spawn slumbering in aeons dreaming of chaos and dominion.

Trigun Maximum is  © Yasuhiro Nightow's (Iä Ny'thoth! Iä! Iä!).

Great  Old One and fan fiction is Spike Valance's.

It is from Yasuhiro Nightow's  Trigun Maximum. There's a link pasted in the artist comment redirecting to original source indeed. What I'm planning to do with this entity is going to be my own... ;)

I guess Nightow has actually been inspired to the Brain Bug of Starship Troopers here. Yet I think that a Lovecraftian side may be detected in every angle of science fiction and here I see a lot of Cthulhu Mythos starting points... :D

Well, Lovecraft´s reach may have been quite big in the world of cartoon/manga/anime/game, etc.....
