Hybrid Enterprise Separation by SpiderTrekfan616 Hybrid Enterprise Separation by SpiderTrekfan616
Inspired by p51cmustang's "The Adaptation" Piece, Here we have an alternate Version of the Enterprise Separating her Saucer section, and yes those are Docking Latches you see on the Stardrive head, The Separation is still in progress so the Docking Latches haven't fully retracted yet.

In this reality Many "Ahead of their Time" advances were made in Starfleet technology, the Routine Saucer Separation was one of them. Made in 2271, it was equipped on the Enterprise as an experiment whihc turned out to be more than successful as she even separated the saucer section at warp 7.4, This was being tested while en route to intercept N'Sa (Later discovered to be Voyager XVI). The Saucer is still unfinished but the stardrive was completely armed with quantum torpedoes, gatling phasers and even a battle bridge.

Ship pieces by captshade (It's Basically a hybrid of his Enterprise and Tikopai Classes with a few touches of my own such as the Nacelles)
Saucer Separated by yours truly.

I wondered what the inner neck section would like when the saucer was jettisoned, nice work.

In my Guide to the Refitted Enterprise for the VGSS Enterprise, I do talk about there being a battle bridge. However, it is at the very top front end of the ship's neck and is quite compact. It is also equipped with a tactical holomap display (a friend of mine actually suggested that idea).

THe Canon Enterprise Can separate but Instead of docking latches it uses Explosive Bolts to Disconnect the Saucer and Stardrive, And that normally necessitates the assistance of a starbase to reconnect the Saucer and Stardrive, Docking latches weren't invented until the early to mid 24th century, The way Docking Latches work is that when the Saucer is connected to the stardrive, The Latches expand and are held in position by a retracting wedge, When the Separation is ordered and the Saucer is in the process of maneuvering away from the stardrive head the wedge retracts and the grab plates pull together and drop down flush to the hull. Meanwhile the structural integrity field is adjusted in real time to compensate for the sudden changes in mass between the Primary and Secondary hulls due to the separation.
