The Last Express-A Perfect Video Game Tragedy

A Tale of Lost Innocence and Beauty Destroyed: Why "The Last Express" is a perfect Video Game Tragedy I recently became aware of the existence of the 1997 point-and-click adventure video game "The Last Express", and I'm really glad that I did. Widely considered a classic of the medium, and still beloved to this day over twenty years after its debut, the game is celebrated for among other things its attention to period detail, voice acting, and of course, its story. And that last one is the element that I'll be discussing in this piece. Why The Last Express' story is, in my opinion, one of the single greatest tragedies in video games. And I know it sounds like a hyperbolic claim, but I also really believe that this game earns it. This piece will explain why. SPOILER WARNING FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME The Last Express takes place on the Orient Express in 1914, so titled because it is the very last ride of the Orient Express before the outbreak of World War I, which

If Mass Effect Characters were Dragons, Part III

Since the second part proved more popular than the first, and I had ideas for at least one more batch, here's Part III! Tali'zorah: First up is a most interesting species of Dragon, one that seem to exist primarily in outer space. While these Dragons can go planet-side and do, they are actually most comfortable in outer space. For this reason, they are known as "The Migrant Space Dragon". Lean with moderately durable hides and chicken-like claws, they come in a rainbow of different colors, with most specimens being at least partly purple. Their heads are such that they look vaguely like a helmet, but this is somewhat misleading, as their heads are actually one of the more fragile parts of their bodies. Sadly, these Dragons are very susceptible to many diseases, which is part of why they often stick to outer space. Generally friendly and eager to help others, the Migrant Space Dragon is nevertheless a capable fighter when necessary. They seem to hold a natural enmity with and aversion

Episode III and Episode V: A Look Back

An Assessment of Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith: How to do dark Star Wars right It has been, respectively, 40 and 15 years since the releases of Star Wars: Episode V and Episode III, The Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith. While I would have liked to have written and posted this on the actual birthday for either of these films, I'll settle for talking about them before the month of May is out. It is perhaps telling that Episode III and Episode V are generally considered the best films of their respective trilogies. While Episode VI is my personal favorite, I still love both of these movies and have a lot of respect for them. And so I thought that it was only right that I take the time to celebrate them with a little assessment. I should note that, unlike many others, I do not hold to the idea that Star Wars has to be Game of Thrones or 1984 in space, and would never wish it to be. That said, I think that what Episodes III and V prove more than anything, is that

Mickey Mouse Title: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Role: Mage First choice for VA: Bret Iwan Attack Type: Ranged Health: Medium Talent: Inexperienced Spellcaster: Any ability Mickey uses has a small chance of coming out as a different ability instead. For example, if the player has Mickey use Magic Ball, Mickey may use Cast Cure instead.  Ability 1: Magic Ball: Mickey throws a ball of blackish-purple magical energy at wherever the player directs him to. It deals damage to any enemy caught in its blast radius. DC Visionaries Part 5-JSA

Justice Society Original Dr. Fate: Kent Nelson was a Jewish Immigrant to the United States, one of many who had fled his home country, sensing that the rise of the Nazi party meant dark times ahead.  Once safely in America with his lover Inza, Nelson chose to pursue a job at the Museum of Natural History.  Among the artifacts on display was a golden helmet known as "The Helm of Nabu".  One night, an undercover Nazi agent, who had been sent to steal the helm for Hitler, broke into the Museum.  Nelson discovered him and in the ensuing struggle, the case was shattered, and the helmet, upon making contact with Nelson, had its innate power awake

Comics Character Discussion 1: Catwoman or Talia?

Talia or Catwoman? Who works with Batman? (If either?) Batman has had his share of love interests over the years, but the two that most people usually remember (unless we're counting Wonder Woman's relationship with Batman in the DCAU), are Catwoman and Talia al Ghul. Now, we all have our preferences on who he "should" be with. Most people (myself included), seem to favor him with Catwoman. But is that correct? Does the evidence bail us "Bruce/Selina shippers" out? I'm going to try and answer that question to the best of my ability. Please remember that, these are opinions and conclusions I have come to based on evidence. If anyone out there

Deconstructing MCU Jessica J. lowballer arguments

Defending MCU Jessica Jones-Why she's not as weak as people say While I don't especially love her show (at least not as much as most other people seem to), I do think that, when it comes to versus matchup discussions, the MCU version of Jessica Jones is really not given a fair shake. People often dismiss her in such a way that they willfully ignore or disregard her strength and durability feats in favor of presenting her as a jobber who anyone can beat. This piece will push back against that idea by addressing the main claims made against her. Claim 1: Jessica Jones is weak because she got knocked out by a 2x4 That's right. Because of an o
