Northern Pacific No. 245

Built in 1956, it is one of 176 GP9s acquired by the Northern Pacific Railroad between 1954 and 1958. 245 was given passenger service and could reach speeds as fast as 75 mph. When the Northern Pacific became part of the Burlington Northern, 245 was re-assigned to freight service and was renumbered 1868. It even survived the formation of BNSF. In 2020 it was acquired by the Lake Superior Railroad museum and pulls excursion trains, and sometimes helps out BNSF and CN freight work.
