Description
Built in 1913, it primarily was involved with freight service (And sometimes Passenger service) until 1919, when the Duluth and Northern Minnesota Railroad was struggling financially. The engine was then sold off to the Lake Superior and Ishpeming railroad along with it's sister locomotive No. 13. In 1959, the Lake Superior and Ishpeming railroad sold the locomotive to the Inland Lime and Stone Company where it was used as a switch engine. But in 1960, the engine was downgraded to a "Portable Stationary Boiler", to supply steam and hot water for thawing limestone. In 1975 the locomotive returned to Minnesota after the General Manager and Vice President of the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range railroad, became aware of the locomotive's existence, and wanted it for his railroad museum project. Soon No. 14 became the first steam locomotives to pull excursion trains on the North Shore and scenic railroad.
