The Lilies and the Well

>>TRACK<< (5:17)
You know I don't feel well. I got salt in my wounds, and all I want is a cool drink of water.
Can you hear me, St. Cajetan? I once knew a well so sweet.
I put my lips to the pail to drink, but I gave it all up for saltwater.

title's in flux at the moment, but this turned out a little more technically sophisticated than the similar image i wanged out last year-- i'm particularly proud of being able to pull off the rusted metalwork look on the text (like i wanted when i drew it) and didn't just stick with leaving it black, hoping it went through. still grapple with some bad habits in digitally-finished trad art, but limiting the elements here helped me turn it out a little more polished. now it's been a bad three months-- i started this before life and i took a turn for the terrible, but i've finished it during some time of relative peace while i'm stuck homeside, and that is no small thing to cheer up about.
not just an awesome song, St. Cajetan is the patron saint of gamblers (if it's compulsive/problem gamblers who need redemption, or just someone who wants a little luck, i dunno, but i like both.) apart from people who push their luck, Cajetan's patronage also covers workers/laborers as well as the unemployed looking for work. so that's another... neat... little analogy, i'll save for another day in a seedy bar with other down-n-outers. tears in beer and such.

i wish i had some sort of epic super trite, pseudo-catholic, saints-n-sinners writeup about how much in common love (okay, all of life) has with dice or cards or whatever; i always like to bind my thoughts to an image to present it as really finished, and hate when the artist has nothing to say. but i'm kinda glad i don't. no rambles, no emotes. i'm really talked out.

St. Cajetan song/lyrics © 1992 David Lowery/John Hickman of Cracker.
the letters were finished with an old "rust" texture from Aegean-Prince that he took down years ago which i use constantly,
Season of Winter 17 by :iconinthename-stock:Inthename-Stock for the wellstones and dice,
Texture 412 by Sirius-sdz for the bg and
Victorian Grunge IV by ArtOfDecay-Stock for the final overlay.

Man, this is a pretty impressive piece. I love all of it, but I think my favorite bit is the flowers. The detailing is just right and the textures really make it pop. ;) Sweet work.
