Here is the thing about cancel culture and other social media trends/topics. You must remember these social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, etc. are design all designed to increase what they call "engagement." This word is thrown around a lot, but not a lot of people understand what it means. The best way to put it is how "addicting" the site is for the users. What does this mean, well it boils down to how long you use/look/interact with the site and its content. The longer a user is on a site makes the ad space more valuable. People that go to a site and leave in a few seconds wont even have time to notice the ads, let alone click on them or buy the products they sell.
Why were you talking about "cancel culture" and here I am posting about "engagement?" It's a complex answer, but I'll try to keep it brief. Though the use of big data (usage statistics and the like) they've used machine learning (some times called AI) to figure out how to keep people on their site. It doesn't take long for an AI to notice that when people are upset, outraged, or just passionate about an theme/topic they stay on the site and post more which causes other uses to stay and post more. The AI purposefully puts topics that it knows the subject will react passionately with into their feed. This means the machine learning is using the way others acted, base on key overlapping categories about them and you, to apply others actions to predict your behavior hoping to have you join a online argument or echo chamber of your beliefs and passions.
It's in the social medias sites interest to incite and fuel the very outrage you are talking about. Their algorithms are trying to make echo chambers and arguments. You are only outraged and upset because that is how they want you to be hoping you'll spend more time on the site and make them more money. The key here is to step away from these sites, this is now how the world is really going on, it's just a skewed view filtered though machine leaning to keep you using the site. In reality the machine learning is doing the same thing that cigarette companies did when they started upping the addictive nicotine in cigarettes. Luckily social media doesn't give you mouth, neck, or ling cancer; but it will up your stress levels which are proven bad for you well being, health and happiness as a person.
Sorry for the rant (I guess?) but it really is the reason for your anxiety about this topic much more than you may realize.
Careful ? Never heard of the word, more carefree now thanks to nol! Anyway Sit, stay, whoa, no, good, down. Them the words he knows now.
