Supergirl Heat Vision by Spacecowboytv Supergirl Heat Vision by Spacecowboytv
So lately I have been wondering, "how can I get my art style to the point that I could do covers for DC comics". I figure, what better way than to keep practicing and start drawing DC characters.

For this piece, I tired to add more motion in the character than I usually do. I played my hand at atmospheric perspective, and I used a dark border stroke to try and highlight the character more.

Any way I will add a poll to ask the following question, but is this getting closer to the quality and style you would expect to see on professional comics/would you buy a copy with a cover similar to this? Thanks for your help!

A couple things bother me about the pose and costume, to be honest. The arms, for one. Is she punching someone, or about to? Is she defending at the same time? They just look awkward to me.

Also, in being as precise as you have been about showing the muscles on her bare midriff, the skirt looks like it's hanging low enough that there should be a worry of it falling off. Partially because the leg line looks a bit wrong, if you follow it to where the hips define the pubic area. (I'm not saying that it is wrong, just that it looks slightly off to me.)

Any other complaints are purely stylistic (thick outlines are something I don't like, but there's no real reason not to use them if they fit in your opinion).

Now onto the things I found RIGHT about this picture. I love the fogging effect to give it a sense of depth. She feels like she's stepping out of the cover, which is a good thing, in my mind. Also, it's subtle, but I love that you can see the reflection of her heat vision on the upper curve of her left breast. (And unless I'm mistaken, also on her left hand.)

Overall, a nice picture, and decent cover.

Okay I like the way the others such as Girl of steel or some of your new 52 covers look better, they had a nice style and good color but that is not to say this looks bad. This looks very good, no problems with the skirt it seems like games and comics are lowering such things all the time, sometimes much lower than real life could allow. I do see the line from her hip too the pubic spot being off but not by much. Also her nipples which we can see through her shirt look less like nipples pocking from under and more like some sort of metal peg thats part of it or something.

Over all love your style, keep up the good work. and keep asking for critique it helps improve my writing.

You certainly have the style going for you. I agree with the others, her musculature on her midsection is incredible. There's something about either her hands or her head that's too small/too big in proportion; something just looks a little off to me, but all in all, great pose, and great job with the coloring. Your style has quite the professional look to it! ^^

If you want my opinion, this looks so excellent in terms of muscular detail and shadow effects that you'd make a good option for DC to hire to do covers, especially for the comic book issues that are set in mainstream DC continuity. Plus, it's a good balance between how you drew Supergirl's abs and how you mangaed to keep her as attractive looking as possible.

10/10 score.

Looks very Good Quality wise, but style wise i think you suffer from what many artist(self included) do in that it looks like Artemis cosplaying supergirl. I'd look into practicing how to step outside of your comfort zone when it comes to your female faces.
