Just a general update since my last journal was from September.
Politics are looking dismal for reasons I need not elaborate on, SMAP got hecking killed by their own agency, and I don't have a ton of motivation to draw. At least I can do something about 1 of those 3?
One of the things that's been keeping me from doing more digital art is a glitch in my Photoshop that makes all the toolbars and file windows go behind the main window every time I change my brush. I prefer the feel of traditional art, but I miss the flexibility and fewer limitations of working in digital formats.
That's not to say I don't have any digital stuff in the works...
(Surprise surprise, it's Katori Shingo)
On a more positive note, Into the Badlands! Now, there's a good action drama.
The first episode isn't the best, but the series picks up quickly. It's inspired by Journey to the West (which was what got me to watch) and pays homage to a lot of famous kung fu films. Plus, it features a diverse cast, a ton of interesting characters, and fight scenes you'd expect from a movie rather than a TV show. If you don't mind a little blood and gore, it's a great show, and I highly recommend it!
I haven't posted an update on my 55 gallon tank here since before I flooded it, so here's Utamaru the Sterba's cory learning that he isn't small enough to fit comfortably under the bridge:
I have 7 corydoras in there right now, and each and every one of them is fantastic.
Regular updates on my tanks are on my fishkeeping blog
Visiting Japan was fun (そういえば)! We got to hang out with family, stayed in Gifu for a weekend, ate a ton of convenient store food, and ended up going to 4 aquariums: Sumida Aquarium, Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, Aqua Toto Gifu, and the Hekinan Seaside Aquarium. I even picked up some books and a Sakanakun weekly calendar:
I'll do my best to keep up with drawing! Sketches and more frequent updates are on my Instagram
Happy April, and I hope you're all doing well!
