Hi guys! It's been some time since a significant update. But a LOT has happened over the course of this year, and many of you might be excited by the big news, which is....
SOUL BEAT IS PUBLISHED!!!
Yes!! For those of you who have been following me patiently since the day I introduced SOUL BEAT (formerly DANTE'S DISCO INFERNO), I'm sure this comes as a great surprise. It's been nearly 8 years (the idea was first conceived back in October of 2009)...but it was definitely worth the wait, I promise!
But! Perhaps the best news isn't just that SOUL BEAT has gone public. The most exciting part is that it's being supported by one of the best digital manga anthologies and a growing leader in producing diverse new projects...
That's right! In Saturday-AM's Issue 66
, SOUL BEAT was featured as the newest manga to join its already DYNAMITE roster, and be contribute to their mission to celebrate diversity and compelling stories from creators all around the world. You might already be familiar with some of their stories, which include heavy hitters like CLOCK STRIKER, SAIGAMI, BULLY EATER, ISLANDERS
, and APPLE BLACK
! To say this development is a big deal is a SERIOUS understatement!
If you're interested in reading the first 20 pages of SOUL BEAT's Chapter 1, you can download Issue 66 on Saturday-AM's website (www.saturday-am.com/
). Even better: this issue was released for FREE in honor of Free Comic Book Day
last weekend, and is still free! For how long, I'm not sure...so get it while you can! Although, if you want to support great projects and creators, it's only $5 for a YEAR-LONG subscription, which includes 20 issues (roughly 2 per month) and other goodies! Each issue contain chapters from up to five or six different stories, interviews, information about comic-making resources, and more!
Sample pages taken from Saturday-AM, Issue 55.
Comic page is from Clock Striker, Chapter 1 (story by Frederick Jones, art by REKSE)
And speaking of comic-making...Saturday-AM hosts an annual event called Summer of Manga
), which starts in Issue 66 and ends in Issue 71. During this event, SAT-AM opens up their doors for potential new talent to promote and possibly publish their work. There are certain requirements and stipulations regarding this opportunity, but if you're a burgeoning manga/comic creator, you should definitely look into it! You can find information about submitting your materials here
Lastly...if you still receive notifications from my account for new deviations, don't be alarmed if you suddenly see a swarm of new posts from me in the coming weeks. I tend to be far more active on my Instagram account, but I still like using DeviantART as a "formal gallery" sometimes. There are many new and exciting images I've produced over the last few months, and I think it's about time I collect them on this account for those who maybe don't use Instagram as much as DA.
AND THAT'S IT! Expect to see a page or two of SOUL BEAT in the gallery, but if you want the "full" story (it's the first 20 pages of Chapter 1, not the complete chapter), then go and download/buy Issue 66 at Saturday-AM as soon as you can! And don't be shy: take advantage of the Summer of Manga
event and see your work published right alongside APPLE BLACK, CLOCK STRIKER, and as of last week, SOUL BEAT
