This is a whole tutorial on how I make an illustration from start to finish!
Included are SAI tips, brush settings, as well as my thought processes.

(Of course, this is only one of the many ways to make a picture. I encourage you to experiment!)

Tools used: Paint Tool SAI & digital drawing tablet

This tutorial is funded by Patreon. Thank you for your support!

Holy moly, This tutorial is going to help me ALOT for my future drawings, honestly I'm bad at shading.
Gotta say, YOU ROCK!
Question!, Will this work in GIMP? or should it really be in Paint Tool SAI?

I don't get how what you mean by putting the colors in a folder and adding shadow layers.

Your layer(s) with all the base colors will be in a folder. Then above the folder make a new layer for shadows. Set that layer to 'clipping group' and 'multiply' then shade away!
If you are still having issues you can send me your SAI file and I can set it up.

Can I ask if you use SAI on computer, or on a tablet???
I looked at your old comic streaming,
and it didn't look like you drew on computer, so...
I want to ask this:

Exactly how do you draw???
And what do you use to draw???

I use a Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet (so it acts as a 2nd monitor that you can draw on).

A quick question; How large do you usually make your canvas when you begin? Should it be excessively huge for more details? I usually have about a 1300x1500 canvas; should it be larger?

For comics I use a 3784 pixel width with a height around 6000 or 7000 pixels. For the Chrysalis picture in the tutorial I worked in 2539x1929 pixels. And the Fluffle Chrysalis picture was 3563x3452 (a bit on the large size). At the end I re-size down about 33-60% from the original.

You might need to take system memory into account too. For the last comic I was at 95-98% memory use so I couldn't make it much larger.
