Takara Tomy Zoids Wild Overbyte

This is the Takara Tomy Zoids Wild Overbyte (aka Gabrigator in the Japanese dub). Overbyte is an alligator type Zoid, and is the Zoid ridden by Lord Malware (aka Caviar in the Japanese dub), one of the four Dark Warriors of the Dark Metal Empire. Overbyte’s most powerful weapons in battle are it’s powerful tail and crushing jaws. When it’s Dark Blast is engaged, it’s jaw extends outward, allowing it to fully open it’s jaws and reveal it’s many teeth. It’s then bites down on it’s enemies, not letting go until it’s enemies have been completely crushed!

I have to say, this is a REALLY cool Zoid! 😃 I got this from the good folks at TFSource for $23, and the build was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed working on this kit and finding out how Takara Tomy was going to pull off the Dark Blast gimmick. And sure enough, they did! When you don’t have it in the Dark Blast form, the mouth doesn’t open while it walks, which is a shame given that it’s an alligator. The head and tail do swing back and forth while it walks. When you change it to the Dark Blast form, the jaw extends out, and this is when the mouth opens. After that, it snaps it’s jaws open and shut while it walks, which actually looks really cool to me. The walking motion is very smooth, too. Overall, this is easily one of my top 5 favorite kits in this line I’ve worked on, and I highly recommend it to any Zoids fan. 🙂
