This is my custom R5 unit, R5-KG. With the indefinite close of the Disney parks, I couldn’t get out to Galaxy’s Edge, so I reached to the Mubo’s Droid Builders Club on Facebook, and someone sold me an all white R5 unit they had been saving for a project they never got to. I was more than happy to take in R5 since R5 units are often overlooked, and they really don’t get much love. So I bought him, along with some red panels and a silver personality chip, and got to work on him.
I’ve added some red and black paint to him, as well as created a sort of holographic effect on the panels on circle the lower part of the dome and added some panel lining to him. I’m still touching up minor details, but yeah, this is R5-KG, everyone. 😊

For those wondering, just like the BB units, the R-series droids from the Droid Depot require six AA batteries for the droid, and two AAA batteries for the controller. The controls for the R-series droids are exactly the same as the BB units, however, the R-series droids are a lot easier to operate. That said, something I’ve noticed with my R-series droid is that as he moves forward, he starts to veer off to the right on his own. From what I heard from other builders, this is a very common issue with the R-series droids. If you can overlook the whole veering off course thing, it’s exactly like playing with a remote controlled car: easy and very fun. They work on both carpet and hard floors, but they work a lot better on hard floors. They also move faster on hard floors, so watch out for that if you’re used to using your droid on carpet.
