P-Bandai HG 1/144 Gundam Lfrith Clear Version

Hey, folks! Kicking off the first week of 2023 with, you guessed it, a Gunpla post! Given the events of 2022, I fell way behind on my Gunpla posts, so I’m going to try to work on catching up on that. Now, let’s get into this one!

This is the limited edition clear High Grade 1/144 Gundam Lfrith. 🙂 This kit is (to the extent of my knowledge) a P-Bandai exclusive, but I stumbled across it on eBay for a good price and that’s how I got my hands on one. The Gundam Lfrith comes to from the prologue episode of Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch From Mercury. The Gundam Lfrith is a prototype mobile suit developed by Ochs Earth Corporation, a company that was established in Earth. The most prominent feature of this unit was the implementation of the GUND FORMAT, where "GUND" or innovative body function expansion technology based on artificial limb welfare engineering was refined for Mobile Suits. The Mobile Suits that incorporated the GUND FORMAT and gained cross-disciplinary fighting abilities are collectively called GUND-ARMs, and people across the world soon came to call them "GUNDAMs."

As a fan of the clear kits, I really like how this one turned out. 🙂 The color separation is really good, and while there are a few spots That should be metallic green that aren’t, I didn’t paint those because I wanted to keep with as much of the kit being clear as possible. The build for this kit is very interesting because it’s simple, but still incorporates assembly techniques I’ve never seen done on a High Grade kit before. The GUND-BITS that make up the shield can separate from each other, but you need a special display stand (sold separately) to display the kit with the GUND-BITS deployed.
Because most of the kit is made of clear plastic, most pieces fit together nice and securely without being too tight. However, the pieces that make up the shoulders are made of regular grey plastic, and when popped into the clear pink sockets in the torso, tend to come loose easily. Now, this may be deliberate in order to give the arms a wider range of motion, but I can’t say for sure. My only other real grip about this kit is that some of the GUND-BITS don’t fit securely into the backpack. I think this is due to the clear plastic not fitting well into the regular plastic, but if you really want to, you can probably fix the problem with a thin layer of clear nail polish applied to the inside of the backpack slots.

All in all, this is a really nice kit! It’s a shame that it doesn’t include the stand to display the GUND-BITS deployed, but it’s still a nice kit. If you’re a fan of the clear kits, or you’re really into the P-Bandai kits, I definitely recommend this kit. If not, then I would recommend the regular High Grade Gundam Lfrith, as it will cost much less.
