Morstorm 1/9 Iron Man Mk II

Description

This is something a bit different from my usual Gundam model builds. This is the Morstorm 1/9 scale Iron Man Mk II model kit. 😄 The Mark II has always been one of my favorites, as I just really dig the all silver color scheme on it. Like other Morstorm 1/9 scale Iron Man kits, this one comes with LEDs for the eyes, arc reactor, and hands. The batteries are included (4x LR521 watch batteries for the head and reactor), however, the ones for the hands are not replaceable, unfortunately. Given that this kit came out a few years ago, the includes LR521 batteries are probably already dead, but you can get replacements pretty inexpensively on Amazon.

This kit is most a silver repaint of the Mk III kit, which is to be expected, as Tony didn’t make many changes to the suits design between the Mk III kit and Mk III aside from the paintjob and type of metal the suit was made of. This kit seems to have most of the same gimmicks and articulation as the Mk III kit (I don’t have that one yet, so I can’t be positive). You get several accessories with this kit, including a display stand, multiple pairs of interchangeable hands, effect parts for the hands and feet, rocket launchers for the arms, missile pods for the shoulders and legs. You also get a screwdriver and screws needed to secure the LED unit in the chest.

As far as problems go, this kit doesn’t really have a lot. There are only really two big problems I’ve found. First, the flaps on the back on mine won’t stay open. I’m sure I can do some kind of modification to those parts to get them to work properly, but it’s annoying that I have to. The other problems is that the hip joints can’t support the weight of the legs when you move them outward. This I was able to fix with a couple of layers of clear nail polish on the joints, however.

All in all, I love this kit! The detail is absolutely stellar, and it looks so good with the metallic silver coating. This kit is definitely on the pricey side, retailing for at minimum $120, but I honestly think it’s worth it. If you’re an Iron Man fan, these Morstorm 1/9 scale model kits are definitely a must have! 😄
