Description
This one is a bit late considering that I picked it up a year or so ago, but here’s the Master Grade 1/100 Acguy. 🙂 This iconic underwater mobile appeared in the first Mobile Suit Gundam series. Build to accommodate two pilots, the Acguy was armed with a grappling claw, underwater torpedoes, and head mounted vulcan guns. While designed as an amphibious mobile suit, it’s strongest fighting underwater.
This is a pretty old Master Grade kit, having come out in 2005, but all things considered, it’s pretty solid. I barely had to use any glue on this one. Everything fit together that well. 🙂 The articulation is about on par with the High Grade 1/144 version, but this is inevitable given the Acguy’s short and stubby arms. Having come out in 2005, it doesn’t have as much of an inner frame as modern Master Grade kits, but it makes up for that with some pretty neat gimmicks. To start, the arms can actually extend out to double their reach and highly improve their articulation! It also has a spring loaded claw that pops out with the press of a button. 🙂 Assembling that part is a bit tricky, because it uses screws to hold that part of the arm in place, but if you’re good with a small screwdriver, it won’t be too big a deal. The shoulder and hip joints can also extend so you can have it in a crouched pose.
Despite being an older Master Grade, it has very few issues in my opinion. My only real issue is that while the monoeye is on a track so you can move it, it fits so loosely in the track that it won’t stay wherever you move it. That’s honestly my only real gripe about this kit. Everything else is pretty spot on for an Acguy.
All in all, this was a pretty fun to work on kit. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, as most fans either love the Acguy or hate it, but if you’re like me and are part of the group that actually likes it, this kit will make a great addition to your collection! 🙂
