Kotobukiya 1/6 Scale Rokusho Model Kit

This is the Kotobukiya 1/6 scale Rokusho model kit. I was a big fan of Medabots as a kid, and I watched the show all the time. Rokusho has always been one of my favorite Medabots, but he was always a very popular character, and I could never find his figures. After they took Medabots off the air, stores stopped carrying Medabots merchandise, so it was years before I ever found any of the toys again. Most Medabots figures sell online for insane prices now, so I thought I would never get a Rokusho figure. However, I recently found this 1/6 scale model kit by Kotobukiya for only $40, and I just had to get him. They also make a 1/6 scale Metabee model kit, and I'll probably buy that one later one. Okay, now for the actual review. This one is a bit long, so be warned. It's long, but very informative:

Let me start by saying that this was a tough model to build. The hardest part being assembling the spring loaded mechanisms in his hands. In fact, one of the springs actually got away from me while I was doing that part, so only one of his hands has a working spring function. It's not too big of a deal, though. I used the remaining spring for his sword arm. You can still get the Pipo Hammer arm (his left arm) to do it's thing if you stick something like a toothpick into the opening on the top. I don't really use the Pipo Hammer feature though.
This model kit is best suited for people who have experience assembling plastic models. It doesn't require any paint or glue, but it has a lot of pieces, and some of the steps can be difficult if you're new to plastic model kits. The build time will vary from person to person since everyone has their own pace that they work at. This one took me just a little over three hours to assemble.
In terms of detail, I'm not sure what to say. This is clearly Rokusho, but I think it may be a different version of him from a Medabots series I haven't seen yet. It would make sense since they game Metabee a new look when the second Medabots series debuted. There are details that I like about this one, though. I like that the compartment on the back where the medal goes actually opens, and how you can actually put the medal in him. That's a cool little feature that makes him feel a lot more like a real Medabot.
In terms of poses, you get a lot of movement out of him. The knees are on a double balljoint, so the knees can bend back pretty far. The feet tilt and pivot, and the front ends of the feet also bend to increase the range of movement in the feet. The movement of the legs is a bit limited because of the skirt (or whatever it is XD). The side parts of the skirt are attached onto balls and also move forward a bit. So you have to fiddle with those in order to really pose the legs. The torso is on a balljoint, so it rotates, as well as bends forward and back a little bit. The arms are attached by pegs and balljoint sat the shoulder, so both arms can rotate, and move up and down. The upper arms swivel outward, and the lower arms are on balljoints, so they can bend and rotate at the elbow. The hands can move a tiny bit up and down, and they do rotate, but that's about it for hand movement. The neck and head are on a double balljoint, so they each rotate and swivel, giving a wide range of motion in the head. Normally, this would be where I move on to the next part of my review, but we aren't done yet! His antennas actually move! They're both attached on balljoints, so the both rotate and swivel. I don't remember if they did that in the show, but I actually like that you can make them look like they're moving with his head.
For accessories, he comes with quite a few. He comes with three pairs of interchangeable hands, four interchangeable sets of eyes, a withdrawn version of his sword, three interchangeable sets of antennas, and a set of cardboard cutouts and a stand to hold them. So you get lots of cool stuff with him. He doesn't come with a stand for the model itself, but he does come with a piece that looks like it attaches to him so you can put him on one of your other figure stands.
As much as I love it, I do have a couple of issues with this model, and that's how the medals come completely unpainted. Literally white as snow. The stand for the cutouts is designed to look like a Rare Medal, but you have to actually paint that piece. As it is, the piece is completely unpainted. :/ Which does annoy me a bit. The medal that goes in his back is unpainted too, so you also have to paint that piece if you want to look like a medal. While this isn't a deal breaker for me, it does annoy me since Kotobukiya could have at least molded those two pieces out of yellow or gold colored plastic. One of my lesser issues is that he doesn't come with a display stand of any kind. You have to buy a stand for him separately. He stands up pretty well on his own, but I still would have liked to have gotten a stand of some kind for him.
All in all, this is a really nice model kit, and as a Medabots fan, I can't get enough of it! This model is more suited for older collectors and model builders, but if you're buying this for younger kids, I recommend being there to supervise the construction and help put the model together. You'll want to have a pair of cutting pliers handy too to make getting the pieces out of the frames easier. If you need an easy solution for any paintwork you might want to do, I recommend using Sharpie paint markers.
