HG 1/144 Sugai Gelgoog

This is the High Grade 1/144 Sugai’s Gelgoog. 🙂 This mobile suit comes to use from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and is piloted by Shiiko Sugai. The Gelgoog is the Principality of Zeon’s first mobile suit designed using technology reverse-engineered from the RX-78-2 White Gindam, resulting in a mobile suit with superior performance in all fields compared to its predecessor, the Zaku. Because of this, the Gelgoog is the first Zeon-designed mobile suit capable of using beam weaponry, with its weapons complement of a beam rifle and beam saber giving it better firepower than the Zaku. Both Federation and Zeon's pilots consider Gelgoog to be better than Light-Type Guncannon.

I had mixed feelings about the Police Zaku from this line, but this kit? I love it! The engineering is very interesting for a High Grade kit, and barely needs any paint. No color correcting stickers are included in this kit, but that’s because of how good the color separation on this kit is. Most of what I was afraid would need painting is actually color separated. What little paint is needed is mostly for the backpack. Even if you don’t add any paint or panel lining, this thing looks great. The articulation is also really impressive on this one, and I’m really impressed by it.

This is one of those kits that I had a hard time critiquing. Mainly because of the good points to it that I mentioned. I really only have a couple of minor issues with this one. First, I don’t like the flat deep green that the visor and head camera pieces are molded from. I really wish they had included stickers for those. My other issue is that the thrusters that make the backpack tend to pop off easily while posing them. This isn’t a deal breaker to me, though, as they pop right back on just fine.

All in all, I really like this kit! the color separation and articulation are stellar, and it’s a very unique take on the Gelgoog. For a High Grade kit, Bandai really impressed me with this one. If they keep this up with the GQuuuuuuX line, I think it may become one of my favorite lines of Gunpla yet. I definitely think this kit is worth having. The build is fun, and the finished kit is fantastic. 😄
