HG 1/144 Gundam X

This is the High Grade 1/144 Gundam X. :) This mobile suit comes to us from “After War Gundam X”, and has a few different pilots throughout the series, the main one being Garrod Ran. Gundam X was a Gundam Type mobile suit - a decisive battle weapon developed by United Nations Earth, equipped with the Flash System. Its greatest weapon was the Satellite Cannon, a beam cannon with enough power to destroy a space colony with a single shot, powered by Super Microwave launched from a solar power facility on the lunar surface. Power from the SMW was stored in the backpack and a series of energy conductors spread all over the GX's body, and the backpack could also provide energy for the Gundam's other weapons, such as beam sword and rifle. Because of this, when conducting combat without firing the Satellite Cannon, the Gundam X could continue fighting for up to a week without resupplying.

This kit came out back in 2010, so it’s a bit of an older kit. That said, the color separation is surprisingly good, with very little extra paint being needed to get it looking anime accurate. After buying the HG 1/144 Gundam XX, I had hoped this kit would have the same range of articulation, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. that said, it has enough articulation to strike some decent action poses. I had a bit of trouble applying the stickers for the satellite cannon panels, but they still look pretty good.

For the most part, this isn’t a bad kit for being over a decade old. The biggest issue I found with it is that the upper body tends to pop off of the polycap connecting it to the lower body while posing the kit, but there’s are a variety of easy fixes for this, so it’s not too big of a deal to me. Other than that, this is a pretty good kit for its age.

All in all, while this isn’t the best High Grade version of a title mobile suit, it’s still pretty good looking. The color separation is a big plus on this one. That said, it’s definitely left me wanting to pick up the Master Grade version just to fill off some of those more dynamic action poses. If you’re looking for a fun and easy kit to build, or you’re a fan of After War Gundam X, I do think this kit is worth having.
