HG 1/144 Gundam G-Self

This is the High Grade 1/144 Gundam G-Self. :) This mobile suit comes to us from Mobile Suit Gundam Reconguista in G, and has a few different pilots in the series. A mobile suit built by Towasanga, the Gundam G-Self is actually made according to the Rose of Hermes' blueprints belonging to House Rayhunton. The Gundam G-Self is an experimental mobile suit that makes use of the Photon Frame. The glowing lights all over its body are Photon Batteries. The G-Self can also release excess Photon energy when needed. Without any backpacks, it can fly/hover for 45 seconds within Earth's atmosphere.

This kit took me quite a while to finally get my hands on, and now that I have it, I really like the look of it. I definitely have mixed feelings about it, but it has a certain charm to its design that I really dig. It definitely needs a lot of extra paintwork to get it look how it does in the anime, but even if you don’t add paint, it still looks pretty good. The articulation is a bit limited, but you can still get it into something good action poses.

This kit definitely has a couple of issues. First, as I said before, it needs a lot of extra paintwork, and some of the parts that need paint could have been easily color separated or color corrected with stickers. The other issue is that the articulation is a bit more limited than I expected, especially in the hips. It can still strike some really cool poses, though, so it’s not too big of a deal.

All in all, despite its issues, I still really like this kit. The build was really fun, and I love the color scheme on it. This one can be a bit elusive, but if you do find it, and you’re looking for a fun Gunpla project, I do recommend picking it up. :)
