The newest addition to Gunpla collection has arrived: the High Grade 1/144 Gundam Cross Bone Maoh Bandai model kit.
This is a really neat kit, and it comes with a lot of cool stuff!
This Gunpla made it's debut near the end of Gundam Build Fighters, and is used by Mao Yasaka.
As far as building goes, this is a pretty easy kit to assemble straight out of the box. If you're like me though, and like to add panel lines and do a bit paintwork here and there, the build will take longer. This kit also has a lot of decals. Most of them are metallic blue, but you also get decals for the eyes and nose cavity of the skull, one for the sight on the pistol, and the obligatory ones for the eyes on the head. The inside areas of the bone weapons don't come with decals, so if you want to fill those in, you'll have to paint those parts. Applying the decals can be a bit time consuming, but the look great once they're on there.
This kit has a pretty decent range of movement in my opinion. The head doesn't turn too much because of the piece at the base of the neck, but it does move up and down pretty well. The skull on the chest does open to reveal the particle cannon, but only the top half of the skull moves. The arms have really good movement, rotating a full 360 degrees at the shoulders, they move all the way out, rotate at the bicep, you get a full double bend at the elbow, and the hands rotate, pivot, and swivel. The hands fit in a bit loosely, so you need to work with them a bit to pose them while you have him holding any of his weapons. You don't any movement at the abdomen, but you do get a bit of side to side turning. One thing to careful about is that the lower body connections to the upper body using a polycap, but the polycap goes into the socket in the upper body pretty loose, so the lower body has a tendency to fall off while you're posing him. I honestly just solve this by separating the upper and lower body, posing them separately, and then popping them back together again. Kind of annoying, but it works well enough. The legs are a bit iffy. They move forward and back, and outwards a bit. You get a double bend at the knee, and while the feet are on balljoints, you only get a bit of rotation, pivot, and swivel out of them.
For accessories, you get quite a bit with this guy.
You get the two bone weapons, two blades that plug into the bone weapons, two beam sabers, two additional beam blades, two knives that can be held in the hands, two knives that peg into the bottom of the feet, a beam pirate sword, a pistol blaster, a set of "V sign" hands, a set of hands for holding the bone weapons and blades, a set of hands for holding the pistol, and another hand which I honestly haven't figured out the purpose of yet.
So yeah, you get quite a few accessories with this one.
I really don't have any gripes with this kit other that how loose the hands get, and the way the lower body keeps falling off. All in all, it's a really cool kit, and I'm really digging the pirate and cross bone theme of it. This is definitely one I would recommend if you're looking for a Gunpla that really stands out, is good for photography, or is just plain cool looking.
