HG 1/144 Freedom Gundam Revive

This is the High Grade 1/144 Freedom Gundam Revive. 🙂 I believe this mobile suit is from Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, but I couldn’t tell you since I haven’t watched that series yet (it’s on my list, okay XD?!). Besides the fact that it was only $20 on Amazon and I was looking for something inexpensive to work on, I was inspired to finally pick up this kit after hearing about the life sized Freedom Gundam statue that was built in Shanghai. I have to say, after working on the High Grade version, I’m a bit tempted to invest in the Real Grade or Master Grade.

Being that this kit came out in 2015, the color separation is mostly pretty good, but it does have spots that need stickers and/or paint. I wound up only using a few of the stickers, and just did the rest of the color correction with Gundam markers. Once you add a little paint and panel lining, this is a very nice looking High Grade kit. 🙂 The assembly is pretty straightforward, making this a good choice for beginners looking to get a feel of how to assemble a Gunpla. The articulation is pretty good, offer double joints in the elbows and knees to help with the more dynamic action poses, however, some of the outward movement of the legs gets obstructed by the waist armor. This isn’t really a big deal though, since you still get a pretty good range of movement.

I really don’t have too many issues with this kit. The color separation and articulation are actually really good for a 2015 kit. My only main problems are that head doesn’t have a very good range of side to side movement, and the shield doesn’t have a piece to attach it to the arm. This was originally a big issue with me, but a second look at the instructions reveals that if you push the handle of the shield all the way down, it will sort of click into place in the hand. So it can hold the shield stably most of the time, but the shield still had a tendency to come loose from the hand while you’re posing the arms.

Overall, I found this to be a very enjoyable and fun build, and it was also a fun one to paint and panel line. 🙂 This is a great looking kit, and now that there’s a life sized statue of the mobile suit, more collectors are going to want their own smaller sized Freedom Gundam that they can proudly display. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, but good quality and fun to build kit, I recommend picking this one up for your collection. 😊
