HG 1/144 Denial Gundam

This is the High Grade 1/144 Denial Gundam. 🙂 This mobile suit comes to us from Gundam Build Fighters Try, and is piloted by Junya Inose. A gunpla that Junya customized for his own use, it is modified from the Gundam Schwarzritter. Like the Try Burning Gundam, the Denial Gundam is designed for melee combat, allowing Junya to perform the Jigen Haoh School's style of martial arts and other martial arts he learned with ease. Other similarities with Try Burning includes transparent gray parts on the Denial Gundam's shoulder, forearm and knee armor that are capable of storing Plavsky Particles for later emission, and a Burning Burst-like system for maximising particle emission.

This is one of those kits that took me years to get my hands one because it was discontinued by the time I really got into Gunpla building. Luckily, the good folks at Bandai heard my prayers, and are reprinting many of the Build Fighters kits, including this one. So I can finally review this kit!

I was a bit nervous about the legs and waist section on this kit, as those were quite loose on the HG 1/144 Gundam Schwarzritter I bought, but this is actually a pretty solid kit for the most part. The articulation is nearly as good as the Try Burning Gundam, allowing it to pull off some pretty epic action poses and martial arts stances. Most of the stickers are pretty easy to apply, and while I used most of them, I did go ahead and use a tiny bit of paint on the shoulders.

For the most part, this is a pretty solid kit, but it does have a few small issues. First, the head seems to have trouble supporting the weight of the hair and ponytail attachments. There are a few ways to fix this, however, so I consider it a dealbreaker. Next is that the hands seem to fit in a bit loosely, but this can probably be solved by swapping out the polycaps. Lastly, similar to the Build Burning Gundam and Try Burning Gundam, it takes a while to attach the effect parts. Again, not a huge deal, though.

Overall, I really like this kit, and it was definitely worth the wait to finally add it to my collection. If you’re a fan of the Denial Gundam, or just melee combat mobile suits in general, I highly recommend this kit. 🙂
