Blokees Classic Class ROTB Primal Beast Mode

This is the Blokees Classic Class Rise of The Beasts Optimus Primal beast mode model kit. Like all kits in the Blokees Transforms line, this kit requires no paint, tools, or glue to assemble. This kit has 67 pieces, and features light-up eyes and a light-up mouth. The light unit in this one is a bit different than other Classic Class Blokees kits I’ve worked on. Every other one I’ve worked uses one 3V CR927 button cell battery, but this one uses two 1.5V LR621 button cell batteries. Also, unlike other Classic Class kits, where the light unit is stored in the torso, the light unit on this kit is stored inside the head. Unfortunately, this means that you do have to disassemble the head to change the batteries in the light unit.

A little known fact about me is that gorillas are one of my favorite animals. This is why Optimus Primal has always been my favorite out of the Maximals. It’s also why I chose the beast mode model kit over the robot mode one (Blokees makes both of them). This is a really cool looking model that captures his beast mode really well. I also really like that they made it so his mouth could not open, but also light up. His mouth did have a light in the background of it in the movie, so I like that they included that gimmick in this model.

Because these kits are only $15 each, I try not to judge them too harshly. That said, there are two things about this kit that bothers me. First, how little articulation there is in the legs and neck. The legs get enough articulation for some standard poses, but it’s hard to get them into position for action poses. With the head, it looks up and down, and the moth can open and close, but it’s hard to absolutely can’t turn right or left. The torso obstructs the area too much.

All in all, I have mixed feelings on this one. The leg articulation is a problem, but other than that, this is a pretty cool kit, and ideal for fans of Optimus Primal. I really only recommend it if you’re a big fan of Primal’s beast mode. If you are, though, this is definitely the model kit for you!
