Description
This is the Blokees Classic Class 2007 Optimus Prime model kit. The Classic Class kits are much smaller than the Action Edition kits, standing between 3”-6” tall. Like all kits in Blokees Transforms line, this kit requires no paint, tools, or glue to assemble. This kit has 88 pieces, and features light-up eyes and a light-up spark chamber. The light unit uses one 3V CR927 button cell battery, and the battery compartment is much easier to get to. Simply separate the upper body from the lower body, and the battery compartment is right under the lower body.
I’ve always been a fan of this look for Optimus, ever since it debuted in the 2007 Michael Bay film. It’s just a very cool look for Optimus, and for only being a $15 model kit, this kit is surprisingly detailed! There are a lot of really nice mechanical details molded into a lot of the plastic, and parts come pre-painted so you don’t need to use stickers or do any paintwork on it. He looks this good straight out of the box. 😄 Even more impressive is that there are no loose bits on this kit. He is rock solid.
The articulation is similar to most Classic Class Blokees kits, with the knees and elbows each getting a half bend, the hips, shoulders, hands, ankles, and head all on ball joints, and a full 360 degrees of rotation at the waist. So while while the articulation in the elbows and knees isn’t the best, you can still get this guy into some really cool action poses.
As far as problems go, this is mostly a pretty solid model. My first issue is quite minor, and that’s that I wish they had gone with a darker shade of blue for the eyes, as they appear almost white when lit up. My other issue is that I’m not a fan of the light units in these Classic Class kits. To switch them on, you have to give the front or back of the model a good flick, and it sometimes takes a few tries to get right. The light units in will switch off automatically after about 30 seconds, but that’s not so bad.
All in all, I really like this kit! It’s one of my favorite versions of Optimus, and you can’t beat the $15 price tag. This is definitely a really fun collectible for any Transformers fan, and also a really good kit for beginners. 🙂
