Blokees Action Edition G1 Optimus Prime

The first Blokees kit I’ll be reviewing is the Blokees Action Edition G1 Optimus Prime model kit. 🙂 Unlike Bandai, Blokees actually gives you a piece count on the box, and it’s thanks to that I can tell you guys that this model kit has 188 pieces. Like all Blokees model kits, this kit requires no paint, tools, or glue to build. Although, you will want to consider using a pair of tweezers to apply the stickers to the wrist computer and hologram display pieces.

Most Blokees kits I’ve seen are fairly small, usually somewhere between 3”-5”, but this one is more like 7”-8”, making it the size of a Master Grade Gunpla. This model also features light-up eyes and a light-up matrix chamber. I usually like to use glue even on models that don’t need any, but this build actually really solid. Everything fits together really well, and I really only needed to glue two pieces that were too loose for my liking. Other than that, I was able to snap this kit right together. The whole build took about an hour and a half. For those wondering, this model does not transform. This is just a model kit of him in his robot mode. But that’s okay for me, because I really dig the robot modes. 😄

As far as problems go, for the most part, this is a pretty solid kit. I’ve only really found two issues. First, the ion blaster sometimes tends to pop out of the hand, and the other is that to change the batteries, you literally have to disassemble the entire upper torso section. I really question the logic in designing it that way when it comes to changing the batteries.

Overall, this was a really fun kit to work on, and it looks really good! At $34.99, it’s about the price of an average Real Grade Gunpla, but if you’re a transformers fan, this is definitely a worthwhile kit to pickup. 😄
