Taur virus: part 1
Taur Virus 1
The whole planet trembled the moment it happened, eight years ago. I was just nine when it happened but it was enough to deeply scare me. A meteor struck Africa and there was nothing modern science could do about it, people though it was the end of the line for earth. Yet at the moment of impact only a crater and mild quakes were the end results. For a second the earth sighed as the so called "doomsday" turned out to be a pebble the size of a truck crashing in the middle of the western shorelines of Africa.
The world was relived and soon after things returned back to normal… well sort of. There was a huge ongoing investigation of the crater as well of the meteor's remains, but there was no way it would affect us… Or so we thought.
It made itself present months later around the continent an odd disease started appearing. It wasn't life-threatening… so far, merely some fever, raspy voice, stomachache among other symptoms. The CDC confirmed there was a link bet

When Dragons Die
"It's on the beach!"
It's on the beach.
Amy Dale fingered the pack of cigarettes in the baggy pocket of her jeans as she moved with the rush of the crowd towards the lake, her mind fuzzy with shock. Could it really have come to this? After all these years of hundreds of people searching, working, chasing, probing, trying to pin down the elusive Loch Ness 'monster' - after all her years of work, studying and scraping by and manuveuring with difficulty through her scanty network until she was part of the latest team sent searching for it - all of that ended like this?
It washed up on the shore?
Dead?
She left most of the crowd behind at the first ring of policemen trying to keep unnecessary people away from the 'monster.' Flashing her ID, she slipped through them and went forward more slowly, the wet ground squelching under her rubber boots. The bulk of the dead creature was perfectly visible now, rising in a steady curve above the heads of the people surrounding it, pointing and talking

Dragon TG TF Chapter 1.
"Stop! Thief!"
Oh great, I'm boned.
I break into a run with the wallet, opening it up as I sprint in between pedestrians. I quickly stuff the bills into my pocket without counting them. The man is hot on my tail and mad as a bull. He kind of looks like a bull too: a broad shouldered, balding, red faced man in a tailored suit plowing his way towards me. He's gaining on me.
I throw the wallet at him and he ignores it entirely. He has eyes only for me.
I start really running now, he means business. I sure know how to pick them; not only did he feel me lift his wallet, he was also prepared to murder me for it.
He's almost caught up with me when I duck into an alleyway, using an old couple as cover in hopes that I might lose him. It doesn't work, and now I'm trapped.
"You!" he shouts as rounds the corner, laughing crazily and coughing as he tries to catch his breath. "Thought you'd get away didn't ya? Didn't nobody tell you it's wrong to steal?"
Well, yes. Someone did in fact tell me it was

Being a Writer
On Why Being a Writer is Neither Glamorous nor Exciting
If you watch the blogs and various sites around the internet about writing, you've probably seen at least one list that details a few universal truths about writers, but they all pretty much boil down to several actual truths.
All writers write.
All writers procrastinate.
Writers don't actually write, because we spend all our time doing something else.
This probably explains why, in the dark hours of one of the very last days of NaNoWriMo, I'm sitting here writing this, when my NaNo is sitting in another window with a pathetic 31.8k words.
Will I finish by 11:59pm tomorrow? Probably not. Do I care? Not particularly, although I'm sure that there's probably some part of my brain, which has been hardwired in a certain way that will start seriously freaking out sometime around 5:00pm tomorrow night.
Why am I so far behind, you ask? Simple. I told myself that I was not going to do NaNo this year. I haven't written anything since Februa

Michael Bergey
Artist
United States
I'm Michael Bergey—a veterinarian and fantasy author with a couple of books (NEW COYOTE and COYOTE SEASON) published through Five Star/Gale. The contracts are expired now, and publication rights have reverted to me, so I thought I'd present the first one (NEW COYOTE) here. If you're fond of fantasy/magical realism with lots of animals and (mostly) accurate science, I think you'll like it!

Thank you! And I wish you a belated but still quite sincere Valentine greeting in return!

By the way, since you're watching my work . . . here's a Coyote-related short story you might enjoy. It's called "Tricks of the Light." [link]

Pleasant surprise finding you here! I picked up New Coyote at a convention a few years back and by coincidence started reading it again yesterday during lunches at the clinic. Did not know you had a second book, though! Will have to read that one too as I enjoy New Coyote :)
