Deviation Actions
Success is a tricky term to define. Many would say sales and I cannot and will not dismiss that, but I am curious which art has performed best. Are there any trends to be observed? And what I do and how I perform may vary over time, so I want to gaugerecent success... not what I had done three months ago... might as well be a lifetime ago. One month. 50+ Faves.
Note 1: 50+ is a benchmark relevant for me. Based on what I have accomplished in the past. Some artists that are newer or with fewer watchers might find 50 too high. Others, like someone named... oh, I don't know, CJ... get that many (and more) in one night. So 50+ for her would be meaningless. It's about what applies to the specific artist. But for me... 50 is a good benchmark. And over one month? Twelve at 50+. Enough to hopefully show a trend and not too many to be redundant/meaningless. My Top Dozen for the last 30 days...
Note 2: How quickly a deviation reaches 50+ would be useful... but DeviantArt is not designed for real data analysis (understatement!)... and I do not have that data (I need to consider that but for now...) so the best I can do is consider what I call Speed which is the number of faves divided by the art age in days. Over 30 days, this stat becomes meaningless as activity is all but dead... a week would be better although not many are 50+ after 1 week but it is still useful for trend analysis and I will revisit that...

Noteworthy: My 7th most popular deviation on the Blenke page and in a quick 3 days is very impressive!
Okay, that's the raw data... Any trends or observations?
8 of the 12 are vehicular. While my recent What works best poll? had zero votes for vehicular art:
...it seems obvious to me that polls may only be relevant to some watchers and my vehicles gather a lot of non-watcher clicks...
The remaining four are females: Two Blenke booty shots, one Rissa and one close-up of the artist. Close-ups generally seem to do well, period. Blenke and her booty as well as Rissa can do well.. or not. I suppose that depends on whether the art is good or not in the eyes of the community. I'm not what I consider as overqualified to assess that in the curation stage. I fully understand some Blenkes, Rissas and vehicles will do badly. But about these women...
Quick observations: Not showing skin! Others can do well with lots of skin. Clearly that is not my thing based on community response. Tight fabric on the other hand is generally appreciated.
Reasonable proportions! The women in question should not be more curvaceous than shown in the above images.
And about what really works...
And that clearly is in good vehicular art.
Like Patrol Skimmer which is 70+ in 3 days
Like Pride of Ganymede which did well (50+ faves) and then a reasonably similar variant one day later also goes 50+. Clearly something resonated there.
Like three mechs submitted in a five day period - Heavy, Light, Mad Dog - gather almost 200 (198 to be precise) faves
If Vehicular Art is not my focus, it should be!
You might think I should compare those that succeed versus those that fail... and that would be useful. The challenge there is considering more than just numbers but actual artistic composition and the like. I think that someone like CJ - yes, I mentioned her earlier, smart and talented woman - would be better suited for that as she actually understands art details. My efforts would be... rudimentary... like a cavewoman... in comparison.
But maybe that should be the next step...?

But I like skin....But seriously concentrate on what is going to get eyes on your stuff, like the vehicles etc, but please do the occasional "fan service"! I like people art, be it close up, you or people in general, and the goblin art so just the odd one or two please!
