🚨 SCAM WARNING: New “Account Verification Required” Fraud Targeting Artists
Please read - this one is harder to validate/detect than the 2025 scams.
A new wave of DeviantArt impersonation scams is circulating, and unlike the older versions, these do not contain malware and will often appear clean on VirusTotal. That makes them harder to expose, so I’m documenting the behavior clearly for everyone’s safety.
❗ What the scam looks like
You may receive a comment from a brand‑new account (often only hours old) claiming:
“One of your illustrations has just been sold!”
“To receive your payment, please verify your account.”
“Tap this image to continue verification.”

The scammer posts a fake DeviantArt-branded graphic that looks official, but the link behind it leads to a credential‑harvesting page, not DeviantArt.
In my case, the scam claimed I had a new sale, but I had already sold the piece and been advised I would recieve the funds. That was the first red flag.
