Description
Tom And Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale
Writers: Joseph Barbera, Spike Brandt, Tom Minton
Date: October 2, 2007
Synopsis: "Tom and Jerry enact in a winter battle."
On December 18, 2006, Joseph Barbera died at the age 95, three months before his 96th birthday on March 24. Since this was the last animated feature he was involved in before his death, I think he died a happy man. The movie follows Jerry as he lives his dream of being in the ballet by playing the part of the King of a group of toys. He has to protect his kingdom from Tom, who has been ordered by the king of cats to capture the toys. I'm not sure why Tom And Jerry hasn't done their own version of The Nutcracker Suite, but I'm glad they did. The plot fits well with the duo's rivalry since Jerry would naturally try to protect others from Tom, keeping him likable. The action manages to be quite effective in conveying how bleak things are, and all the humor you'd expect from Tom And Jerry is here, along with some emotional moments and great music. I call it a good movie.
Side Note: This is the only Tom And Jerry movie with Canadian actors.
Here is the cast for the movie.
Chantal Strand as Tuffy
Ian James Corlett as Paulie
Kathleen Barr as Nelly
Tara Strong as La Petite Ballerina
Garry Chalk as King of the Cats
Trevor Devall as Lackey
Richard Newman as Toymaker
Mark Oliver as Dr Malevolent
