Rendered in Pov-Ray 3.7.0-RC6.
I constructed the pieces and board entirely using Pov-ray's constructive solid geometry. My goal was to give the set a metallic and very angular look.
The download version is available at 7680x4320 (= 4 x 1080p). Highly recommended!
A companion piece is also available ([link]) in the same style depicting Deep Blue's victory of Karparov in game 6 of their 1997 match.
