Activity

So, I got a little side tracked with some non-fractal digital art that I wanted to explore.  I have had little experience with the techniques involved, so it was a fairly interesting to discover some of the principles on my own.

I think I have all the tools in place to generate another work I've been thinking about for a couple of weeks now based on polynomial Newton fractals.  I improved one of my subroutines to give a 2.25x average boost in performance!  Hooray!  Regardless, though, it will take significant computational resources (I estimate around 28 hours of core processing time for that big project).

I'm also thinking about trying out some more Newton fractals, but using non-polynomial functions.  I have some ideas, that I think might produce some interesting patterns, but I won't know until I code it up and render a few!  So, watch for those!

I am a programmer and am very interested in mathematical art. I also do some conventional digital art.

Absolutely. It's a beautiful piece. I love the sense of scale presented going from human footprints to ocean to planet to galaxy. The DD is well deserved!

Absolutely. Your fractals are quite inspiring work. It is impressive to see what results from what is obviously a strong artistic vision paired with the high level of detail inherent in fractal art.

do you think that you could help me tweak my journal CSS a little bit if you looked at it long enough? all i want to do is make the image (the rainbow with becka) tiled so that there isn't an ugly gap of boring blue on bigger screens... i know you said you don't like CSS code as much but maybe you could figure it out anyway..? :]

Hi Becky,

I looked at your CSS code and it looks like all you need to do is go and find the region that looks like this

body.gruze div.bubbleview div.journalcontrol#journal-28189119 .journalbox .journaltop {
background-color:#234567 !important;
color:#ab3843 !important;
background-image:url(http: //i195.photobucket. com/albums/z131/snickerzz11/journalheadercopy.png);
background-position:middle center;
background-repeat:no-repeat;
height:330px;
}
(I had to put some spaces in the link to prevent it from doing a [link] for the URL)
and change the line that reads
background-repeat:no-repeat;
to read
background-repeat:repeat-x;

This will probably introduce an ugly seam into the image though. You can fix that by using a tool (probably in PSE) to make it 'seamless' (I know GIMP does this) to the background. If you'd like help, send me the master image file for your journal header and I will be happy to modify it into a seamless image for you!

Let me know if that works (or doesn't) and if you'd like help with the seamless thing!
