Wasp of Gratitude by sockhiddenunderarook Wasp of Gratitude by sockhiddenunderarook
I saved this wasp from drowning in the milk that was left for the cats by putting a little bone in there and lifting it out. What was my reward for this? It had to stop and clean itself and it's wings were damp so it couldn't take off, also it stopped for a while to eat what it could find. This is the closest I went to the wasp. After a bit of a photo session with it he flew away in to the distance like at the end of a movie, in to the sky. I wish you well, wasp. Your lifespan is already too short to be ended by drowning.

Awwwe, it's so cute~! >w<
Reminds me of the time I helped a huge moth out of the water and kept it on a set of napkins so it could let its wings dry a bit. I'm not afraid of handling and helping bugs. xD

My beloved old camera is broken, so I only can adore macros by others, this is a really awesome example and I like your story, too :) May I ask which camera/equipment you use?

How close? Macro lenses are designed for close up shots as they fill the frame without the need to crop. You'll have to check the magnification ratio though. A ratio of 1x/1:1 or greater is macro.

This kit lens shot needed a lot of cropping.

Thank you. As I said I had a bridge camera with no extra lense. My camera worked as close as 5cm in macro mode.
It was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20

They eat anything that's sweet. Wasps were hanging around meat that was left out for the cat once also.

Wow...I'm usually scared of wasps, even pictures of them, because I fear their sting, but this photo is amazing. The detail is so close-up, and the colors pop out...Great job! I applaud you on saving that wasp! :D

 I think it did.

I've realised now though that hoverflies are just as pretty as wasps though and less dangerous so I might focus on various kinds of hoverfly now haha.

gotta say, you are kinder and more trusting then me.... I mean, I have crickets in my house and when I find them I put them outside so my cats cant torture them the way cats do... Love my cats but they are sadists!  I am alergic to bees, but I believe in the live and let live theory, so I will not harm a honey bee... But wasps, well they can be down right MEAN sometimes. I would not have trusted this guy lol... I would of got him out of the milk and tossed him into the bushes.. If he lived then good for him. Only reason I would take him out of the milk was so the cats didn't drink him and possibly get stung... I am a gentle soul but not when it comes to things that will hurt me. I hate getting stung lol.... but you got a great pic and didn't get stung... so I would say the wasp rewarded your kind act

Thank you. Well when I got it out of the milk (it was a chip, now that I remember, not a bone)  it just slowly walked up the chip almost to my fingernail, then I sorta dropped the chip because I didn't want it on me, but the little fall didn't hurt it any. xD

Anyway it then just started walking about around the cat dish and eating little bits from it, then quite a while later after it had finished cleaning itself it just flew away whilst I was staring at it. xD
