My Bio
My name is Ian Gorton aka Soapfish (from Japanese "Ian" brand soap and "Gorton" brand fish). I grew up in Minneapolis-St.Paul where I live and work.

I can't remember a time when I didn't draw. I always wanted to be an artist. I grew up drawing comic book, video game, and anime characters. I received formal "traditional" art training during my childhood (ie: painting, drawing, sculpture)

I graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2009. Since going to MCAD, where I received less "traditional" art instruction, I have moved to a semi-digital process where I work in and out of the computer.

Shonen fanart is my current passion (it's too much fun!), but I am working on various independent, original works.

----------------------------------------------
Opinions perhaps worth mentioning:
--Akira Toriyama is an artistic genius.

--One Piece is the greatest series currently in
publication, maybe one of the best ever.

--Say what you will about the story, Bleach has
some of the best comic formalism I have ever
seen. Kubo's rhythm of big and small, black and
white, action and rest, is flawless. He's also
one of the most poetic Shonen artists I have seen.

Current Residence: Minneapolis, MN
Operating System: Mac OSX 10.6

I just updated my gallery with four house banners and text from George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire (televised as Game of Thrones). If you haven't watched it or read the books you should! Especially if you like fantasy stuff! For all the work I put in I am kind of dissatisfied. I feel as if I had to compromise on my vision as well as the quality. But I suppose as art is sometimes, you just have to let some things go. Anyway I hope people enjoy them for what they are! I have been slowly chipping away at them for a while. I also have a plethora of sketches and alternative concepts for each icon which I will post as soon as I feel like t

I am in fact still alive and still making drawing! I have been (quasi)absent from DA for over a year now. But I have returned! I am planning on keeping tabs and updating more this year...we will see how that goes. However, I am here for the time being! I've had a lot of big changes in the last year and I still haven't gotten things worked out :( Either way, I'm back in Minneapolis (again, sort of) and will be posting all kinds of new (to DA) ARTS!
